I like to understand complex systems and problems. I can take algorithms from initial concept to full field implementation. I want to work on projects that will be built or fielded soon.

My PhD research focused on improving a navigation technique for robots in GPS denied environments called Terrain Relative Navigation (TRN). I addressed an outstanding fundamental challenge for TRN operating over incomplete and inaccurate map regions. In partnership with the Monterey Bay Aquarium Research Institute, I was able to demonstrate my improvements in field trials, and my methods are in use in the field now.
