My favorite part about technology is the act of turning imagination into reality. Most people have some ideas for a business, maybe a website or an app, but I feel truly lucky that I've grown my skills to the point where I can understand how to go from something ambiguous into software that works.

Currently my technical interests revolve around functional programming, the Scala language and distributed systems. I'm interested in better learning these tools in the pursuit of creating as robust of software as possible, both from the perspective of less bugs and greater performance. 

As time goes on I realize that projects are started every day using the wrong tools for the job, and those projects go on to flounder to various degrees as a result. Those who never look to the future, and more importantly, look to the past for inspiration will likely continue to make the same mistakes. Cookie-cutter software and "rails new" will not get you to where you need to be.
