# Dhvanil S. > Forward Deployed Engineer @ Gecko Robotics Location: Brooklyn, New York, United States Profile: https://flows.cv/dhvanil At Gecko Robotics, I develop the Cantilever platform to enable data-driven maintenance decisions for industrial assets. As a Forward Deployment Engineer, I partner closely with clients on-site across mining, manufacturing, and oil refining to deploy and adapt Cantilever for novel operational use cases. At Square Roots, I was on a team pioneering a climate-smart indoor farming platform for advanced agriculture and research; a convergence of hardware engineering, software engineering, and plant sciences that's poised to revolutionize the future of food. In my role, I leveraged my computer engineering skills to design and implement end-to-end sensing and control systems. This process involves selecting hardware, collaborating with construction teams for deployment, and developing the full-stack software that empowers our users to effectively utilize the technology. I recently earned my Master’s degree from The Cooper Union focused on leveraging modern AI for climate research. My work adapted pre-trained vision transformers for analyzing multi-spectral satellite imagery to map coral reefs. My commitment lies with driving towards a future where our people and planet flourish. ## Work Experience ### Forward Deployed Engineer @ Gecko Robotics Jan 2025 – Present Developing the Cantilever platform to enable data-driven maintenance decisions for industrial assets. Partnered on-site with clients in mining, manufacturing, and oil refining to deploy and adapt Cantilever to novel operational use cases. ### Senior Software Engineer @ Square Roots Jan 2024 – Jan 2025 | Brooklyn, New York, United States Growing plants in the dark! Led the end-to-end planning, design, and implementation of a comprehensive CO2, water, and energy measurement system to support Square Roots' AgTech research platform. Leveraging my computer engineering background to bridge electrical hardware and software in managing Square Root's IoT controls infrastructure. I oversee remote sensing, control systems, data visualization, and full-stack development for IoT controls, all integrated with the company's centralized software platform. ### Full-Stack Software Engineer @ Square Roots Jan 2020 – Jan 2024 | Brooklyn, New York, United States - Developed the company's internal "Toolbelt" software for business intelligence, operations management, and indoor farming controls using a Ruby on Rails, PostgreSQL, GraphQL, and React stack. - Implemented AWS Greengrass to enable remote sensing, actuation, and alerting for internet-connected shipping container farms, as well as to provide over-the-air updates. - Created software for Raspberry Pi microcomputers to interface with off-the-shelf programmable logic controllers, facilitating farm automation. - Supported agile team growth through code reviews, pair programming, and leading architectural design initiatives. ### Student Researcher @ The Cooper Union for the Advancement of Science and Art Jan 2019 – Jan 2020 | New York, New York Within the Autonomy Lab at Cooper Union, I founded and led an interdisciplinary initiative that collaborates with students from the School of Architecture and Art to develop automated hydroponic systems for urban indoor spaces. - Developed a C++ library for ESP-32 microcontrollers to monitor and automate hydroponic systems. Integrated an MQTT broker with a RESTful Node.js server for efficient sensor data logging and sharing. - Created a React Native mobile app for data visualization and ESP-32 hardware configuration via BLE. - Led a diverse team of 20 artists, architects, and engineers to design an open-source educational kit. - Explored the use of LoRa technology for farm-to-farm communication in disaster-prone areas. - Awarded the Cooper Union President's Grant for a greenhouse exhibit. - Awarded the Cooper Union Engineering Dean's Grant to develop an open-source IoT educational kit. ### Lead Instructor of Saturday STEM @ The Cooper Union for the Advancement of Science and Art Jan 2020 – Jan 2020 | Greater New York City Area ### Software Intern @ BlueTrace Jan 2018 – Jan 2018 | Greater Boston Area - Produced a prototype farm-to-table traceability solution for the shellfish production and sourcing industry using a React web-portal paired with React Native field application. - Built a GraphQL API using a Node.js server and MongoDB for efficient and flexible data management. - Incorporated the Zebra SDK and QR codes to automate and modernize industry required shellfish tag printing. - Established partnerships with head members of shellfish traceability at the FDA. ### Software Intern @ Peeko Oysters Jan 2017 – Jan 2017 | East Marion, New York - Developed a serverless GIS inventory management software using Firebase and the Google Maps API. - Wrapped the HTML/CSS/JS software for Android using Adobe PhoneGap. - Gained experience in: Cloud Computing, Cloud Storage, Android Deployment, User Testing ## Education ### Master of Engineering - MEng in Electrical and Computer Engineering The Cooper Union for the Advancement of Science and Art ### Bachelor's degree in Electrical and Computer Engineering The Cooper Union for the Advancement of Science and Art ## Contact & Social - LinkedIn: https://linkedin.com/in/dhvanilshah - Portfolio: https://dhvanilshah.com --- Source: https://flows.cv/dhvanil JSON Resume: https://flows.cv/dhvanil/resume.json Last updated: 2026-04-13
