I have been coding since age 11, and working professionally—mostly with startups—since 2014. I boast a wide breadth of experience working across all parts of the stack, but I prefer working on the backend with servers, or on local apps and tools. As I am driven by insatiable curiousity about why things are the way the are, and why things aren't better than they are, I read much more code than I write.

In my professional career, I have played a variety of roles, but my favorite are "observability detective", "feature lead", "codebase doctor", and "your friendly neighborhood team unblocker." I have strong experience with the following tech stacks:

• AWS (Route53, S3, RDS, SNS, SQS, Elasticache) and Heroku
• Ruby on Rails, Javascript/Typescript, and Rust as backend technologies
• GraphQL, gRPC2, and Thrift for RPC (and of course the good 'ol http protocols)
• React, Angular, and Vue for the frontend
• PostgreSQL, DynamoDB, CassandraDB, MariaDB, Sqlite, and MongoDB for databases
• Linux, Docker, Kubernetes, Terraform, Chef, Puppet, Airflow, Redis, and many other infrastructure tools


In my personal projects, I tend towards a different toolbox:
• Rust, Python, and Scheme for my preferred languages
• Swift when I want to target my local computer or phone
• A big cardboard box of tiny computers with obscure hardware and limitations to challenge my conceptions of "slow" and "small"
• Tiny programs with large impact

I believe the the power of technology to bring people together and to coordinate solutions to immediate, real-world problems that face people every day. When I am not coding, I am reading history, learning languages, reading about their cultures, listening to music from around the world, yapping with my neighbor, and generally trying to piece together why we are the way we are.
