Project description

Built a web app for books where users can search for books, leave reviews, and view a variety of professional critic reviews. I built 15 server end points (Express JS) connecting to 2 database functions (MongoDB). I connected this backend to multiple external API’s to fetch reviews and the best sellers list from the New York Times and to fill in book details from Google Books and GoodReads. The React app, styled with Material UI, consisted of many pages including the Best sellers list, Book details, User details, and Search results. Users could add reviews, star ratings, and flag books as favorites to view them later in their profile. Users could sign up and login with a username and encrypted password.

* Architected a system built on Microservices to operate efficiently with over 10k requests per second by utilizing an Nginx reverse proxy, a Redis cache, Amazon Elastic Load Balancer and SQS

* Containerized services using Docker and built a pipeline to automate testing using Travis CI and rapid deploy to Amazon Web Services for development and live environments

* Optimized code and architecture to enable hundreds of concurrent users with sub 100ms response
