This has culminated in the ability to expertly dissect a system or change request and ask the important clarifying questions up front during requirements gathering as a Software Engineer. ## Work Experience ### Senior Software Engineer @ Automattic Jan 2021 – Present ### Software Architect Team Lead @ Reorg Research Jan 2016 – Jan 2021 | 11 East 26th Street Lead a 3-person development team involving daily stand-ups, code-reviews, mentorship, and software/system planning and design. (Visual Paradigm for UML Design, MySQL Workbench for EER Design) Developed a variable, bulk-record insert script in PHP for MySQL which reduces the amount of time to insert large amounts of rows (e.g. 1M+) by an average of 20%. I had to learn about different MySQL insert optimizations, and how to best exploit them to insert as many rows possible per database connection. I wrote a Medium post about my findings, which now has more than 1.5K views. (Laravel, PHP, MySQL) Designed a Single Page Application CMS using VueJS for the front-end, Laravel for the back-end, and the Pusher service for push notifications. This application was a single feed of consolidated source documents; allowing an Editorial team of 75+ people to be notified instantly of new available documents, who was actively looking at them, and whether someone considered it newsworthy or not. (VueJS, Javascript, Laravel, PHP, Pusher.com, MySQL, ElasticSearch) Created an application which automated common SDLC tasks like updating Jira tickets, and creating GitHub Pull Requests while at the same time facilitating these actions via Slack messages. This was a self-started initiative I pursued after seeing the potential to streamline our development team's processes. Still being used to this day, this application has saved us a subscription to services like IFTT and Zapier while providing better service and unlimited customization. (Laravel, PHP, MySQL, Jira API, Slack API, GitHub API) ### Associate Business Systems Analyst @ JPM Asset Management Jan 2013 – Jan 2015 | 4 New York Plaza Designed web-based application workflows and systems, facilitating such activities as Client Onboarding, Account Opening, and Know Your Client (KYC)/Anti-Money Laundering (AML) compliance for bankers. Lead the integration of the LexisNexis’ InstantID (authentication and fraud detection) service with the Client Onboarding KYC workflow reducing the need for manual verification of a prospect’s identifying documentation and the time spent in the KYC process. Authored and maintained Functional Specifications Documents on various projects becoming the source document for the implemented technical solutions while also covering impacts to other downstream systems. Lead an account activity reporting initiative which provided bankers with on-demand financial data of their client’s account activity across the bank to aid with AML related questions for their client’s KYCs. ### Associate QA Analyst @ JPM Asset Management Jan 2010 – Jan 2013 | 4 New York Plaza Lead the testing initiative on a new client on-boarding application which integrated core client data, account opening, and various KYC (Know Your Client) systems and applications. Coordinated and executed Front End testing and validation in conjunction with end-to-end application testing to ensure expected application behavior and downstream data integrity. Performed data validation at the database layer using SQL. Web services testing using using SoapUI Pro and Unix CLI when more detailed analysis of the SOAP requests was required. Reported on testing status and open defects to many different levels of the organization and consistently interacted with developers to discuss the root cause of open defects.
