A highlight of my time at Apple has been the past five years, dedicated to Xcode and Swift Playgrounds. In this role, I supported the Source Editor team, contributing to the enhancement of the Code Completion experience, Asset Catalog, and features in the Simulator, Interface Builder, and Source Control Management. Furthermore, I played a vital role in evolving the app infrastructure, working on elements like Run Destination, Quick Actions, Bookmarks Navigator, and introducing Downloadable Platforms. I was also instrumental in features of Swift Playgrounds and designing our annual demo iOS apps, such as Fruta and Backyard Birds, which was showcased to developers. In leading Xcode's iconography, I not only created native SF Symbols but extended my role to include programming in Swift. I devised a method for programmatically rendering icons in various shapes and sizes, a significant addition to Xcode allowing flexible icon definition with SF Symbols, custom shapes, or letters. My involvement also covered the design of app icons and logos for SwiftUI, SwiftData, and Xcode Cloud. My contributions to the WWDC 'What’s New in Xcode' sessions included crafting compelling presentations. Additionally, I have been involved in various confidential iOS and macOS projects, awaiting release. Moreover, my collaboration with Platform HI was pivotal in refining the SF Symbol and App Icon creation processes. This involved authoring documentation and a section in the Human Interface Guidelines, focusing on Document icons on macOS. ### Senior Visual Designer @ Roku Jan 2013 – Jan 2014 | Saratoga At Roku I juggled several projects, including creating the mobile app UI for iOS and Android, working on the themes for the main TV Platform, managing contractors to help us design themes, creating templates with automation to generate assets for multiple TV resolutions, creating animated screen savers, and helping with visual design and iconography for the upcoming Roku TV. Due to limited engineering resources, I had to develop designs that were both easily implementable while still being highly usable and reflective of Roku’s brand. ### UX Designer @ Amazon Jan 2012 – Jan 2013 | Cupertino At Amazon I designed visuals, detailed specs and user-flows for the Kindle Paperwhite. The main constraints faced were limitations of e-ink technology and the wide age range of the user base. This meant developing very creative solutions to satisfy the multiple requirements. I learned a lot about legibility and typography, as well as how to fine-tune font size, line length and line height to allow for an optimal reading experience. I collaborated very closely with product managers, researchers, and engineers from concept to shipping the product. Lastly, I helped develop several internal tools, scripts, and templates to dramatically increase the team’s efficiency. ### Senior Visual Designer @ Palm Jan 2011 – Jan 2012 At Palm I helped define the visual style of the core WebOS framework as well as its main applications and interaction patterns of future releases. Due to my technical knowledge I worked more closely with engineers than any other designer on the team, helping them find ways to implement the designs I created in pure CSS3 and assuring their quality once coded. What I enjoyed the most was coming up with new interactions since mobile is still such a fertile area for innovation. I prototyped many of these new concepts in After Effects. Unfortunately, the product was effectively killed following acquisition by HP and most people were laid off or left. ### Senior UI Designer @ Sencha, Inc Jan 2010 – Jan 2011 Sencha relocated me from London to Palo Alto where I started by redesigning the theme for their UI elements on both ExtJS 4.0 and Sencha Touch, a new JavaScript framework for mobile devices. From August 2010 I also started working on the interface for Sencha Animator - a desktop application which allows anyone to easily create animations with CSS3. My responsibilities involved UX, UI, icon design, deciding on new features, creating preset button styles and animations as well as styling parts of the app using CSS (it’s a cross-platform app built with HTML and runs in WebKit through QT by Nokia) My responsibilities as the only designer in the team also included creating icons, promotional images, and banner ads. I also consulted external clients on the UX and design of their applications built using Sencha’s frameworks, and on occasion helped mockup and design them from scratch. ### Designer / Founder @ Kohive Jan 2007 – Jan 2010 My time at Kohive was spent working a wide range of tasks such as, designing the entire user interface for the “OS” as well as all the applications, improving the user experience, creating all icons, managing my team of 5 developers, on top of managing the budget, promoting the product online, creating and giving promotional presentations in technology events and writing and illustrating an extensive business plan detailing the product’s concept and future plans to be shown to new investors. Kohive’s UI pushed the boundaries of what could be achieved inside browsers, we used advanced custom JavaScript frameworks to create a desktop-like application on the internet.
