# Ellie H. > Senior Software Engineer Location: San Francisco, California, United States Profile: https://flows.cv/ellie I have a passion for building technology to last and thinking through the entire lifecycle of software development. Coming from a non traditional software engineering background, I place a lot of emphasis on mentorship, helping grow team members, and pushing for more diversity and inclusion in every organization that I join. I have a Masters in Chemistry from UCLA, where the subject of my research was Artificial Neural Network Hardware. Languages: Javascript, Typescript, Ruby and Java Technologies: Kubernetes, AWS (various), MySQL, Redis, GCP, Node, Docker, Datadog https://github.com/ecdemis123 ## Work Experience ### Senior Backend Engineer @ Chime Jan 2021 – Present | San Francisco ### Software Development Engineer II @ Amazon Jan 2019 – Jan 2021 At Amazon Prime Video I have been working in the Prime Video Catalog Content Management Systems organization. I primarily use Java, various AWS Technologies, and bare-metal servers. While at Amazon I have coordinated between engineering, product, design, and QA regularly as tech lead on global initiative to enable video metadata editing in internal tooling. I have managed project team work, story creation, task delegation, and stakeholder communication for this project. I also designed and implemented a high throughput locking system in AWS Step Function workflow system for ensuring that only latest valid versions of movies are published to customers. For platform type of work, I recently upgraded the operating system platform of one of my team's bare-metal service to address security vulnerabilities, and authored documentation on how to complete this process, and presented it to the entire Video Central organization. As on-call work is a big part of the team's responsibilities, I took steps to decrease on-call ticket mean time to resolve from 17 days to 14 hours by inventing and driving adoption of ticket handling standards and procedures. ### Senior Software Engineer @ Dave.com Jan 2018 – Jan 2019 My work at Dave encompassed backend and platform development on the Typescript application, and varied infrastructure and devops projects. In the Typescript application, I focused on managing the billing system for processing micro-loan payday advances via ACH and debit transaction and setting up 3rd party integrations. For the devops work I maintained the Kubernetes cluster running on GCP, set up a new job processor system - Faktory to be used across both banking and advance products, and drove adoption of the monitoring & metrics platform Datadog. ### Senior Software Engineer @ Dollar Shave Club Jan 2018 – Jan 2018 ### Backend Software Engineer @ Dollar Shave Club Jan 2016 – Jan 2018 | Greater Los Angeles Area My work at DSC was mainly in the sphere of our billing and fulfillment systems. I wrote mainly Ruby on Rails, with some Javascript as well. In January 2017, I organized a Girls in Tech meetup at DSC and like to participate in mentorship opportunities (such as Teens Exploring Technology). Some of the projects that I have worked on at DSC are listed below, written in Rails unless otherwise noted. Technologies: Ruby on Rails, React/Redux, Avro, Kafka, Redis, Sidekiq, Resque, MySQL - Integrated our custom billing system with the vendor Vindicia to capture failed payments. - Implemented Paypal as an additional payment gateway - Collaborated on and maintained a front-end app to view shipment data using React/redux - Built an internal ruby gem for interfacing with Kafka and Avro - Integrated with the USPS Address Change Service for updating customer's addresses automatically - Architected parallel custom billing system ### PHD Candidate @ Gimzewsk Lab UCLA Jan 2013 – Jan 2016 | UCLA Department of Chemistry - • Research on Atomic Switch Network (ASN) Artificial Neural Network Device -• Published two first author papers in highly accredited nanoscience journals (see below publications section) •- Passed PhD qualifying examination • - Semiconductor fabrication of device in Class 100 Cleanroom, using conventional microfab techniques • - Building a custom measurement system using LabView to interface with NI-DAQ, Switch, and SMU hardware which contained over 100 subprograms - Guiding and helping users with custom measurement system • - Analysis of large and complex data sets using Matlab and LabView •- Presented research at MANA in Tsukuba, Japan and SRC Techcon 2015 in Austin, TX ## Education ### Master’s Degree in Materials Chemistry UCLA Jan 2013 – Jan 2016 ### Bachelor of Science (BS) in Chemistry Whittier College Jan 2009 – Jan 2013 ## Contact & Social - LinkedIn: https://linkedin.com/in/eleanordemis --- Source: https://flows.cv/ellie JSON Resume: https://flows.cv/ellie/resume.json Last updated: 2026-03-22
