A bit more about me: 

I decided to become a software engineer after being a writer in the tech industry as well as spending a few years around the folks at Chi Hack Night (a civic tech meetup) that were making awesome things to make Chicago* a better place. 

One day, I said to myself, “Enough watching people make stuff and writing about people making stuff, it's my turn!” So I took an online course in Python from EdX (MIT's 6.00.1x: Introduction to Computer Science and Programming), loved it, and entered FullStack Academy to continue my journey. 

It’s been a few years and a pandemic since then and I’ve never looked back. 

I enjoy:

- Taking a broadly scoped project, breaking it into pieces, getting it done, and telling non-engineers about it
- Building things that are helpful
- Collaborating on self-directed teams with opportunities to mentor and be mentored.
- Thinking about the future of society, technology, and media
- Using simple language to communicate complex subjects
- Pragmatism as an engineering philosophy: the right solution is always contextual

Most importantly: I am a do-er, passionate about collaboration, making smart decisions,  and creating excellent work. 

*I used to live in Chicago. Now I live in Boston. From a city with The Bean, to Beantown.

Bonus fun facts if you've made it this far! 
- I spent a year studying Arabic in Egypt 
- In college, I started an informal student group called Stew Wednesday 
- I've lived on 3/4 US coasts (San Francisco - West, Boston - East, Chicago - Third) (still missing Gulf)

Built out Frank platform from scratch with an engineering team of two, leading the engineering team as a solo engineer for one year.

Touched or built every part of the stack, from DB schemas to our CI/CD pipeline, while making product and design decisions from a design system that I helped build.

Some projects I worked on: 

- Implementing our chat microservice and developing new features like private channels, channel options by workspace, and message reactions
- Developing APIs for managing a group’s users
- PWA
- Developing an approach to i18n in our app and implementing it across our monorepo
- Task creation, assignment, and management system including email and in-app notifications
