Jan 2008 – Jan 2018 Ms. Loh Design Co. is a multi-disciplinary design studio specializing in branding, editorial, communication, and event design for mission-driven organizations. We partner with social justice groups and nonprofits whose values align with our own—centering equity, mutual aid, and the empowerment of underserved communities. Our work spans print and digital formats, including editorial design for publications and tablets, annual reports, children’s books, media kits, catalogs, event branding, marketing collateral, logos, and more. Selected clients include: Butler Koshland Fellowship, The Center for Young Women’s Development, Chinese for Affirmative Action, North East Medical Services, Youth Advisory Council, 8020 Publishing, and Immedium Publishing. ### Designer @ Dwell Media Jan 2013 – Jan 2013 | San Francisco, CA I had the honor of working with the extremely talented design team at Dwell Magazine and contributed to the July/August 2013, September 2013 and the Prefab Source book special issue. ### Designer @ Wired Magazine Jan 2011 – Jan 2013 UI + UX + visual design + editorial design + art direction At WIRED, I had the honor of working with an absolutely amazing team of people who work together to create an award winning publication. During my time there, I designed for the front of the book, START and PLAY section for both print and tablet formats (iPad and Kindle Fire). Layouts for the iPad are done for both the horizontal and vertical orientations. For the Kindle Fire, we designed a vertical layout only. Specifically for tablet I was responsible for the design of the START section pages, the TOC, the section openers (aka mini TOCs), masthead and colophon. Additionally, I worked on feature stories, and occasionally a PLAY section page. Most notably, I was given the responsibility to redesign the TOC for tablet, conceived of and designed the section openers; which hadn’t existed previously, and designed the logo for the Decode section. I also worked with the design director to refine the rubric and margins for the tablet. Daily tasks would include edit and art team meetings, conferring with photo editors, art directors and the director of digital to plan out the visual and interactive assets of the layouts. Generating multiple layouts of each story in every orientation to ensure the best user experience possible. Conferring with other designers on the team to share ideas and get additional feedback. Presenting pages to the design director for approval. Pinning up pages for walk though. Consulting the production team in building better files. ### Creative Director @ Hyphen magazine Jan 2007 – Jan 2012 creative direction + art direction + editorial design + event design + project management As the creative director of Hyphen magazine, I directed a team of designers and photographers. I was responsible for overseeing the brand identity of the organization at large, maintaining the design integrity of the publication, and researching and envisioning fresh new ways to engage the readership. Additionally, my responsibilities included scouting, hiring and art directing illustrators, project management, coordinating the design and printing of the magazine, and leadership. Through Hyphen, I mentored junior designers in the fields of editorial design and print media. ### Lead Designer @ San Mateo County Association of Realtors (SAMCAR) Jan 2001 – Jan 2008 design direction + communication design + event design + identity As the lead designer at SAMCAR, I directed and implemented the brand identity of the association and their nonprofit housing foundation. Projects included the rebranding the Foundation's identity, overseeing the redesign of the association's website, branding and design of supporting collateral for their four annual gala events, the design of in-house collateral and communications materials among others. ### intern @ Alterpop Jan 2004 – Jan 2004 | San Francisco, CA design + identity + production + packaging design During my 3 month internship at Alterpop, I worked with an award winning design team lead by Doug Akagi and Dorothy Remington, and guided by Christopher Simmons (MINE SF). I assisted senior designers in a variety of projects including business papers for the California Parks Trust, recipe cards and packaging for the SF SPCA, identity for IDS Real Estate Group, newsletter for the Nueva School, Union Bank of California employee magazine and others. ### Production Artist @ LuckySurf.com Jan 2000 – Jan 2001 I conceptualized and design interactive games on co-branded sites for our 1.6M users - Responsible for creating weekly promotional graphics, in-house presentation material, gaming design and art, and designed co-branded logos for sub-divisions of LuckySurf and their affiliates (TV Guide, WebMD and others) - Designed creatives for a wide-range of marketing and sales needs - Tracked outside media buys and researched competitive sites for analysis LuckySurf was an online lottery awarding daily cash prizes, awarding aprox $15 million in cash and prizes to more than 1.6 million players, including a $1 million jackpot. ### Marketing Assistant + Office Manager @ VNU Global Media Jan 1995 – Jan 2000 marketing + communications + office management VNU Global Media was a European publishing company, which represented business and high tech title in over 100 countries. As assistant marketing coordinator for the San Francisco office, I maintained the market research library and the publication library, updated data sheets for each of the titles VNU represented, was responsible for the proofing and corrections of listings sent to media guide publishers, created an inventory of audits and created in-house marketing collateral and contacted individual publishers for marketing requests.
