# Erikka L. > Sr. Software Engineer at Illumina Location: Brookline, Massachusetts, United States Profile: https://flows.cv/erikka I am a graduate from Georgia Institute of Technology with an M.S. in Computer Science (Machine Learning Specialization) and the University of California, San Diego with a B.S. in Bioinformatics and a minor in Computer Science. My interests involve combining Technology, Medicine, Design, and Research to better improve healthcare. My ultimate goal is to utilize these fields to better personalize medicine and treatments that align with a patient's on genome. I am a detail-oriented and creative self-starter that loves to innovate, create, and learn. Much of what I do and have done follow my values and allow me the autonomy to start new projects, creativity to explore, to grow my knowledge, and to collaborate and form long-lasting relationships with my peers. I love research and working with data collection/analysis. I have been blessed to hold a few abstracts and a potential review paper to my name from my time at both the Orthopedic Surgery labs at UCSD and at Mie University (in Japan) as a volunteer researcher. My technical experience with designing and implementing bioinformatics pipelines can be exemplified in my project on regeneration capabilities in Schmidtea mediterranea. Outside of pure technology and science, I devote my time to participating on the UCSD Div 2 Track & Field Team, working as a career peer at the Career Center, and serving the homeless community of San Diego. As such, I am able to multi-task on many types of projects well, collaborate with a vast variety of people, and have a nicely rounded portfolio of experiences. Nevertheless, I am always on the look-out to learn new things and grow as a person with Hackathon events, practicing magic tricks, and online learning courses like Rosalind and Codecademy.
