# Evan Schindewolf > Robotics @ Nextera Robotics | CMU MRSD Location: Boston, Massachusetts, United States Profile: https://flows.cv/evanschindewolf Robotics, by definition, combines disparate fields into one of the most powerful tools we have. The Master of Science in Robotic Systems Development program at Carnegie Mellon is furthering my ability to effectively develop these systems from start to finish. Among many varied interests, there are two that stand above the rest for me, service and robotics. Service has been a central tenet of my life for a long time having spent a decade progressing from Cub to Eagle Scout. Then through my undergraduate, I helped develop and lead implementation of a solar street lighting system in rural Zimbabwe as part of Carnegie Mellon's Engineers Without Borders chapter. Both of these experiences have elevated a drive to use my work to positively impact those around me and far away. The main tool I want to utilize in this goal is robotics. Robotics has also been integral over my years of projects. During high school I was a member turned leader of a FIRST Robotics Competition team, which I now mentor. Then as an undergraduate, I took the foundation of everything physical, physics, as my major and have worked, through robotics courses and research, to utilize this knowledge of fundamentals to explore ways to overcome pressing challenges in robotics. But to utilize this field effectively it's necessary to understand the structures surrounding our work. In the coming decades, we face incredible challenges in areas such as environmentally friendly housing and development, sustainable food sourcing and transportation, and space exploration and habitation. These topics are where I want to make my impact. If any of these topics are also of interest to you or you read/saw something you think I might like, please let me know and I'd be happy to chat. ## Work Experience ### Lead Robotics Software Engineer @ Nextera Robotics (MIT, Y-Combinator) Jan 2022 – Present | Boston, Massachusetts, United States ### Robotics Software Engineer @ Nextera Robotics (MIT, Y-Combinator) Jan 2021 – Jan 2022 | Boston, Massachusetts, United States ### Independent Consultant @ PROTOINNOVATIONS, LLC Jan 2021 – Jan 2021 Nonprehensile Rover-based Bulldozing Controller - Architecting a control system for autonomous bulldozing ### Research Assistant @ Carnegie Mellon University Jan 2017 – Jan 2021 | Greater Pittsburgh Area Tactile Sensors for Robotic Applications - E.
