# Evan Zeller > Senior Software Engineer Location: Durham, North Carolina, United States Profile: https://flows.cv/evanzeller I am a versatile software craftsman with a proven ability to deliver scalable, observable, and automated systems. I take pride in my holistic and rigorous approach to the software development process including estimation, planning, design, knowledge development, documentation, delivery, test, mentorship, and support. I am looking for opportunities to help deliver real social progress through the means of software, for career mentorship, and for community engagement. ## Work Experience ### Senior Software Engineer @ Nexla Jan 2023 – Present ### Senior Software Engineer @ Virtana Jan 2018 – Jan 2023 | San Francisco Bay Area Developed scalable data processing pipelines that handle over 100M detailed cloud billing records daily. These pipelines perform cost analysis and generate cost saving opportunities recommendations on a cloud-agnostic data model. Reduced daily and on-demand processing time by 31x, from over 1 hour to under 10 minutes– allowing customers to take action on reports more rapidly. As a frontline on-call engineer: handled all aspects of production incidents– discovery, mitigation, root-cause analysis, resolution, testing, and public statement issuance. As a technical leader: created detailed technical design documents, estimates, plans, and broke down user stories into developer tasks. Collaborated across teams to develop API contracts and construct views for data presentation. Produced observable service deployments through logging, metrics, and tracing– improving the effectiveness of on-call engineers during incident management. Maintained robust custom build and deployment systems in Jenkins and Gitlab CI/CD for more than 20 repositories, including containerized Java and Golang microservices, Maven and Gradle artifacts, AWS Lambda functions, and large scale Terraform deployments. ### Software Engineer @ Lumina Networks Jan 2017 – Jan 2018 | San Francisco Bay Area Developed a commercialized distribution of an open source network controller, focused on OpenFlow, MPLS, and BGP protocols in a large telecom data center context. Engaged directly with customers on proof-of-concept and production deployments. Negotiated API contracts between front and backends for configuring the network controller. Early-adopted React and leveraged the framework to develop frontends for both configuration and performance/stability monitoring. Engaged in community activities as a technical leader in the OpenDaylight open source community. ### Software Engineer @ Brocade Jan 2015 – Jan 2017 | San Francisco Bay Area ### Software Engineering Intern @ University of Kentucky Jan 2013 – Jan 2014 Deployed and maintained a Software Defined Networking (SDN) enabled testbed network for researching and evaluating SDN enabled hardware and control software. Developed software to leverage SDN controller APIs for making decisions about the network and its traffic. ### Lab Consultant @ University of Kentucky Jan 2010 – Jan 2013 Provided support for student computing accounts and hardware/software available in university computer labs. ### Intern @ OpenDaylight Project Jan 2014 – Jan 2014 | Remote Worked with a small team to update the host tracking functionality for the release of OpenDaylight Helium. ## Education ### Bachelor of Science (BS) in Computer Science University of Kentucky Jan 2010 – Jan 2014 ## Contact & Social - LinkedIn: https://linkedin.com/in/evan-zeller --- Source: https://flows.cv/evanzeller JSON Resume: https://flows.cv/evanzeller/resume.json Last updated: 2026-03-22
