# Fatima Ali > Software Engineer at Middesk Location: San Francisco Bay Area, United States Profile: https://flows.cv/fatimaali 👋🏽 Hi! I’m Fatima, and I'm currently working as a Software Engineer at Middesk in San Francisco. Before Middesk, I worked at Tome, interned at Twitter, Apple AI/ML, and Google, and studied at UC Irvine. Along the way, I've enjoyed sharing my journey by volunteering for community organizations welcoming people to the tech world. Outside of work, I love to paint nature scenes, edit photos of my hiking trips (redwoods are the best!), soak in golden-hour sunshine, and take portraits of my friends. I’m always excited to meet new people—feel free to reach out! ## Work Experience ### Software Engineer @ Middesk Jan 2025 – Present | San Francisco, California, United States ### Software Engineer @ Tome Jan 2022 – Jan 2024 | San Francisco, California, United States • Built Typescript, React, GraphQL, Apollo, NodeJS, and Postgres features for a storytelling tool leveraging generative AI and an AI research assistant used by sales teams • Led technical implementation efforts for two projects: internationalization across the product and capping of free user product usage • Made significant contributions on the Growth Engineering team, including presentation engagement analytics and notifications (which helped land Tome’s first enterprise contract), workspace organization folders, custom fonts, Stability AI image generation, custom logos, templates, and user account linking • Joined as Tome’s first new graduate and gave technical interviews for engineering candidates ### Software Engineer Intern @ X Jan 2021 – Jan 2021 | San Francisco, California, United States • Built JavaScript and Scala features for a team that provides infrastructure for engineers to create the X APIs • Designed and developed a setup wizard for an internal web-app that enables engineers to add new API endpoints • Led feedback sessions with users and planned future product features to anticipate data model changes ### Software Engineer Intern @ Apple Jan 2021 – Jan 2021 | Seattle, Washington, United States • Developed features for an internal platform in the AI/ML organization that enables users to experiment upon ML tasks at scale • Added methods to surface storage inefficiency to users across a web app with a React.js frontend and Node.js backend, Python CLI, and Python API • Designed user experience and architecture of overall feature implementation, including planned additions • Composed and led semi-structured user interviews that inspired 4 future features for storage management workflows ### Undergraduate Researcher @ UC Irvine Jan 2021 – Jan 2021 • Analyzed interview and survey data from a study selected for CHI 2018 to explore designing flexible technology for physical activity with Prof. Elena Agapie • Incorporated insights on how technology can adapt workout recommendations to people's maternal and menstrual health challenges ### STEP (Student Training in Engineering Program) Intern @ Google Jan 2020 – Jan 2020 | Mountain View, California, United States • Ideated and developed a full-stack logistics web app with guidance from Google Earth for The Farmlink Project, a nonprofit that has delivered over 22 million pounds of farm surplus produce to food banks during the COVID-19 pandemic • Built 4 customized ReactJS layered search experiences to help nonprofit organizers match a farm’s produce supply to a food bank using food insecurity levels, storage constraints, transportation capacity, and location proximity • Attended leadership workshops and was 1 of 3 interns spotlighted in the Google Women Intern Community Empowerment Week • Received recognition as 1 of 82 undergraduate and graduate students to be a 2021 NCWIT (The National Center for Women & Information Technology) Collegiate Finalist ### Software Engineer Intern @ Onto Innovation Jan 2019 – Jan 2019 | Milpitas, CA • Designed and developed a Python service to automate adjustments of semiconductor test points and prevent repeated light exposure from undermining test data, reducing a Singapore team’s workload by 3 hours/week • Analyzed hundreds of datasets with Pandas to discover significant changes and diagnose issues with testing devices • Expedited software product testing by creating a Python program to validate 200 file and product versions Nanometrics and Rudolph merged into Onto Innovation in 2019. ### Programming Lab Tutor @ UC Irvine Jan 2019 – Jan 2019 | Irvine, California • Supported a 45-student lab to debug their Python programs and build their coding and project design skills • Reported on personal updates to teaching strategies every week and updated course staff on student progress ## Education ### Bachelor of Science - BS in Computer Science UC Irvine ### Monta Vista High School ## Contact & Social - LinkedIn: https://linkedin.com/in/fatimazali - Website: https://github.com/fatimazali - Website: https://twitter.com/fatimazali --- Source: https://flows.cv/fatimaali JSON Resume: https://flows.cv/fatimaali/resume.json Last updated: 2026-04-05
