# Fengrui Gan > MSCS Northeastern University | Ex-Amazon | Ex-Meta | Ex-Flexport Location: San Francisco Bay Area, United States Profile: https://flows.cv/fengrui I am currently a MS Computer Science student at Northeastern University. I have programing experiences with Java/JavaScript and Python, and I have some experience in full stack web development. I was previously a physics student at UC Santa Barbara, where I worked with Dr. Dave Patterson for two years. In the lab, my responsibilities included setting up hardware communication, building microwave circuits, and general data logging and analysis. I learned a variety of skills from the lab. I believe the most important skill I got was the skill of Googling. I became fascinated with programing when I was learning how to program an Arduino. Then I started to learn about web development and eventually applied for a master's degree in Computer Science to learn even more about it. I have been exploring web development on my own for a while and built several websites with Node.js, Express, and MongoDB. I am also expanding my arsenal with React and Django. As an avid gamer, I also tried game development and participated in the online 2020 CiGA game jam, where I co-developed a game with a team of strangers. I often try to use computer science to make my life better and easier. As I seek to become a software engineer in the future, I hope that I will be able to make the life of others better and easier too. ## Work Experience ### Software Engineer @ Amazon Jan 2024 – Present ### Software Engineer @ ByteDance Jan 2024 – Jan 2024 | San Jose, California, United States ### Software Engineer @ Flexport Jan 2023 – Jan 2023 | San Francisco Bay Area Impacted by layoff - Implemented bulk data upload for freight tracking on Flexport’s enterprise client application. Utilized Kafka queues with Kotlin and PostgreSQL back-end to enable asynchronous data processing, achieved upload rate of 1000 unique containers per minute. - Developed responsive front-end using React and GraphQL. Integrated with 3rd-party library for automated CSV column mapping, real-time validation, and inline edits, reducing data preparation time for clients by 30%. ### Software Development Engineer Intern @ Amazon Jan 2022 – Jan 2022 | Santa Cruz - Designed Android app that performs OTA updates for other team built apps. - Built app with Kotlin. Built back end with AWS S3, AWS Cognito Identity Pool, and AWS Lambda. ### Frontend Engineer Intern @ Meta Jan 2022 – Jan 2022 | Menlo Park, California, United States - Built Release Runbook that helped unify information, facilitated automation, and provided 5 times faster workflows for Mobile App Release Operators. - Created back-end data fetching with GraphQL using Meta’s HackLang, built front end components with React and Relay using Javascript ### Software Development Engineer Intern @ Amazon Jan 2021 – Jan 2021 | Santa Cruz, California, United States Designed full-stack website with complete server-less architecture. Improved team production debugging workflow and reduced debugging effort by half. - Utilized AWS Lambda, DynamoDB, S3, and API Gateway to develop Java back end. Automated file processing and searching of diagnostic reports. The system can handle 100,000 report uploads per hour. - Developed front end React website with Typescript and Material-UI. ### Laboratory Assistant @ University of California Santa Barbara Jan 2019 – Jan 2020 | Santa Barbara, California, United States I have been working with Dr. David Patterson at University of California, Santa Barbara, starting from May 2018 to present. I joined Dr. Patterson's group as an undergraduate, then continued to work as a lab tech after my graduation. I work on the microwave spectroscopy experiment as well as other side projects on the ion trap experiment. My work mainly concerns equipment setup, such as writing data process and equipment control scripts, machining parts like copper radiation shields, and building electronic circuits. ### Undergraduate Student Researcher @ University of California, Santa Barbara Jan 2018 – Jan 2019 | Santa Barbara, California, United States ## Education ### Master's degree in Computer Science Northeastern University Jan 2020 – Jan 2023 ### Bachelor's degree in Physics UCSB Department of Physics Jan 2015 – Jan 2019 ### High School Diploma Moreau Catholic High School Jan 2012 – Jan 2015 ## Contact & Social - LinkedIn: https://linkedin.com/in/fengrui-simon-gan - Website: https://fengruigan.github.io/fengruigan-homepage/ --- Source: https://flows.cv/fengrui JSON Resume: https://flows.cv/fengrui/resume.json Last updated: 2026-03-22
