# Garrett Disco > Full Time Dad / Senior Software Engineer on a career break Location: Seattle, Washington, United States Profile: https://flows.cv/garrett Professional full-stack software developer with a monitoring obsession, excellent communication skills, and a track record of disruptive result delivery. As a developer and tech lead for Amazon's 1st party devices organization from 2015-2020, I delivered increased detail page conversion rates through latency reduction. I analyzed key latency metrics, set org-wide latency reduction targets, scoped projects to meet those targets, and wrote software as the leader of a team of 3 developers, culminating in a 13% YoY reduction in above-the-fold detail page latency. From 2020-2024 I applied automation and research to rebuild Amazon's content testing infrastructure from the ground up. I delivered containerized microservices from scratch using the AWS Cloud Development Kit, invented and instrumented new key performance indicators that drove decisions weekly, and led consensus across the organization on API decisions that impact all users of our new tooling. I formally mentor other developers as an expert in our Java/Spring rendering fleet and as an expert in A/B testing best practices. I also often work in Node, React and AWS. I also run our weekly "wind-down" series, organizing structured and unstructured nonsense to build culture and have fun together while remote. ## Work Experience ### Senior Software Development Engineer @ Amazon Jan 2023 – Jan 2024 | Seattle 2020-2024: Full-stack developer for Weblab, Amazon's platform for gating and measuring the impact of changes to the retail site, mobile apps, and internal services. Designed and built tooling that saves 6 dev-months / year by automating a workflow for updating and testing Amazon’s key long-term growth metric. Led a team of one intern and one SDE II to build an ETL pipeline that generates and publishes global experiment impact summaries into an Amazon-wide data lake. Provided the most comprehensive performance analysis to date of Amazon's primary experiment analysis engine, including scaling forecasting for upcoming team projects. 2018-2019: Tech lead for Amazon Device Sales. Lead a team of 3 engineers driving latency improvements to Amazon's 1st party Devices detail pages. Partnered with Devices VP to set latency reduction targets for the organization. Designed and built frontend and backend latency solutions, including deferring nonessential content, detecting and removing redirects from ingress links, asset cleanup and compression, robot detection and removal, and new monitoring tools used across the org. * 13% (300ms) YOY reduction in above-the-fold latency 2015-2017: Software Developer for Amazon Device Sales. Responsible for building and maintaining custom features for 1st-party device detail pages. My system was designed to connect whatever videoconferencing system the hospital had available, through Epic's iPad app, and overlay a stroke scale for rapid diagnosis remotely. I did it by designing layers of abstraction, from the video vendor's driver, up to an adapter that translated each vendor's driver into a common API, up to a view controller that connected the video API to the view elements. ### Project Lead @ Course Aggregation Tool Jan 2013 – Jan 2014 | Princeton, NJ Led a team of five peers to develop an innovative alternative to Princeton’s Registrar website. Lobbied for support from student government / integration with popular Tigerapps initiative. ### Software Developer @ Epic Jan 2013 – Jan 2013 Developed a telemedicine prototype for iPad as part of a team of three.
