# Girish Gowdra > AI Cloud.. Location: United States, United States Profile: https://flows.cv/girishgowdra Hi there 👋 ! I am Girish Gowdra. Senior Software Professional with over 15 years of experience spanning Kubernetes, Golang, Python, Software defined networking (SDN), Cloud, Passive Optical Networks (GPON, XGPON), DevOps and Wireless technologies (LTE and WCDMA ). Over the past ten years, I have been deeply focused on Open-Source software and have been a core contributor for the Edge Manageability Framework, CORD, RCORD and VOLTHA initiatives. I have good experience with software design, coding and integration. My interests include On-Premise Cloud based on Kubernetes, building scalable, resilient and fault tolerant systems. I have bootstrapped many projects ground-up and I enjoy doing this. I love new challenges, working with dynamic, highly productive teams. On a personal level, I'm passionate about self-improvement and personal growth. 🖥️ Github: https://github.com/gcgirish ✒️ Medium : https://medium.com/@gcgirish.pesit ## Work Experience ### Software Engineer @ Lambda Jan 2025 – Present | San Francisco Bay Area Building the superintelligence cloud ### Cloud Software Development Engineer @ Intel Corporation Jan 2022 – Jan 2025 | Santa Clara, California, United States - As the lead software developer for the Cluster Orchestration components of the open-source Edge Manageability Framework, I drove the integration of Cluster API for lifecycle management of workload clusters, utilizing Rancher-Fleet for GitOps-based Add-On and Application Deployment. - In the earlier versions of the EMF, I worked on integration of SUSE-Rancher as the workload cluster orchestrator/manager. - My expertise in Golang, Kubernetes Operator patterns, and Cloud Native App development best practices was pivotal. I leveraged communication protocols using OpenAPI/REST and Protobuf/gRPC. - Before open-sourcing the framework, I ensured all internal releases were timely, meeting quality and security benchmarks. - I played a crucial role in delivering 1,000 clusters with stable operations and active workloads, achieving all key KPIs. I supported K3s and RKE2 workload clusters, resolving performance issues to meet KPIs. I developed tools using K6 from Grafana, Bash Scripts, and vClusters to automate scale testing. - By usage of composable cluster templates I integrated Add-Ons for Storage (OpenEBS, local-path-storage), Networking (Calico), Security Policies (Gatekeeper), Virtualization (KubeVirt), and Observability (Prometheus, Telegraph, Fluentbit). - I crafted test plans and implemented frameworks using Ginkgo and Gomega, alongside new GitHub Actions for continuous integration. These tests covered 100% of Cluster Orchestration functionalities, preventing regressions and saving 25% of developer time. - Collaborating closely with customer-facing and marketing teams, I contributed to acquiring new customers and partners while supporting existing ones. - I mentored over 5+ junior engineers in Kubernetes, Cloud Native development, coding best practices, and performance fine-tuning techniques, fostering their growth throughout the project. ### Member Of Technical Staff @ Open Networking Foundation (ONF) Jan 2019 – Jan 2022 | Menlo Park, California, United States - I was one of the core developer of the open sourced Virtual OLT Hardware Abstraction software (VoLTHA) which was developed under the umbrella of Open Networking Foundation (now Linux Foundation) along with various contributing Telco/OEM partners. - This project primarily involved dis-aggregating the Optical Line Termination (OLT) and the Optical Network Termination (ONT) devices into control and data plane and moving the control plane to the cloud. The data plane packet-forwarding rules were then orchestrated via an SDN Controller Stack (control plane) sitting in the cloud. Open Networking Operating System (ONOS) was used as the SDN Controller. - The project leveraged cloud native best practices and was developed in Golang. It used primarily protobuf/gRPC for inter-service communication. - I optimized several pieces in the software to support up-to 10000 simultaneously connected subscribers (ONT) over several 10s of OLTs. - I primarily contributed to the OpenOLT adapter (sits in cloud) and OpenOLT agent (sits on OLT) - together acted as a conduit between the control plane and the data plane translating OpenFlow protocol to data plane rules (primarily Broadcom Access Layer rules for OLT and OMCI for ONT) - I hosted weekly developer community calls, providing progress on the project, running bug-scrub, discussing any open agendas, and also planning for the future releases. - I also developed test frameworks based on Robot to validate vendor OLT/ONT devices to be compliant/working with VoLTHA software stack. ### Software Architect @ Radisys Corporation Jan 2019 – Jan 2019 | Bengaluru Area, India ### Staff Software Engineer @ Radisys Corporation Jan 2017 – Jan 2019 | Bengaluru Area, India OpenSource contributor for VOLTHA, SEBA, CORD, RCORD, MCORD initiatives.
