Building education products as a backend engineer, solving product and platform challenges

I build products that bring broad access to quality education to elementary school students. This involves product discovery (I love dropping into classrooms for interviews!), prototyping and fleshing out functionality with React, Rails and at times Python and Elm too, leading the team with mentoring and code review, bringing needed attention and care to complex organization-wide engineering challenges, and shoring up our key infrastructure and build tooling needs so all engineers benefit from productivity boosts.

At work, I use Ruby on Rails and Sinatra for our web development, and I contribute to our native iPad app as well as other projects in Objective C. At eSpark, we also manage highly distributed, intermittently available devices with our system, and so I have expertise in delivering a high end product to a lot of devices nationwide.
