Worked on various stages of the train to cloud data pipeline, from configuration of on-train computer networks to data analysis and visualization in support of Alstom's data-driven predictive maintenance platform, on the new REM line. Daily meetings in French and English. ### Staff Writer @ McGill Tribune Jan 2023 – Jan 2023 | Montreal, Quebec, Canada Brainstorm ideas for articles, conducts interviews with sources, and write articles for weekly publications. ### Machine Learning Engineer @ Woven by Toyota Jan 2022 – Jan 2022 | Tokyo, Japan Researched and designed deep learning algorithms and computer graphics for facial recognition in driver monitoring systems in Toyota’s autonomous vehicles. Liaised between Japanese-speaking teams and English-speaking teams to arrange collaborations ### Undergraduate Mathematics Researcher @ McGill University Jan 2021 – Jan 2022 Initiated research in ray tracing (physics-based computer graphics), supervised and funded by McGill Mathematics Department. Used numerical analysis to evaluate validity of geometric and numerical-algorithmic solutions. Wrote ray tracer in C from scratch to render images using developed techniques. Objective of the project is to optimize ray tracing to compute color data for each pixel in one (constant-time) calculation, by creating generalized signed distance functions (SDF) for individual shapes. This has been successfully done for many shapes, while preserving the useful properties of existing SDF theory. When generalized SDF were not viable, numerical solutions which proved to run with adequate speed (linear time with respect to the number of pixels) were developed, deployed, and proved usable. ### Production Assistant @ Union Street Films Jan 2021 – Jan 2021 | New York, New York, United States Sound quality control and interviewing production assistant (World Media Festival Silver Globe-winning) documentary film, Wonderful World - A New York Jazz Story, aired on NHK. ### Pool Technician @ Mill Bergen Pools Jan 2020 – Jan 2020 | Brooklyn, New York, United States Cleaned private pools, regulated pool chemical balances, and repaired and filtration plumbing systems. ### Research Intern @ Columbia University in the City of New York Jan 2019 – Jan 2019 | Manhattan, New York, United States Designed graphical user interfaces and physical parts for instruments used in research on the Seebeck Effect in conductors. Collected and analyzed data (in python) on the signal response of LED lights being used as photodetectors. ## Education ### Bachelor of Science - BS in Physics and Computer Science McGill University ### Physics Brooklyn Technical High School ## Contact & Social - LinkedIn: https://linkedin.com/in/harrison-yamada-325904140 --- Source: https://flows.cv/harrisonyamada JSON Resume: https://flows.cv/harrisonyamada/resume.json Last updated: 2026-04-05
