Senior Software Engineer @ Arzeda || Bits in Bio Seattle 🧬🤖
Software Engineer with a passion for solving problems in biology. Resilient, self-motivated, and hardworking professional with years of experience in software development, distributed systems, and data science.
Building software and infrastructure for protein engineering, bioinformatics/computational biology, and lab automation at Arzeda. Arzeda, The Protein Design Company™, is a synthetic biology company that creates novel proteins, enzymes and specialty chemical products that compete on performance, cost and sustainability. Spin-out from the David Baker lab at the University of Washington.
Worked in the office of California's Chief Data & Geospatial Information Officer. Performed a variety of Software Development and Data Engineering tasks as a part of the state government's official COVID-19 response.
Built large portions of the CA-Notify data backend and Python application including data deduplication logic, phone number verifications, and communication with Google servers. Implemented multithreading for SMS verifications, increasing throughput by over 600% from baseline. Used by over 10 Million Californians.
Operationalized multiple Extract, Transform, and Load (ETL) pipelines to bring data into Snowflake to ultimately serve on Covid19.ca.gov. Implemented event-driven pipelines using AWS Lambda, Azure Data Factory, Databricks, and Snowflake Snowpipes. Also implemented charts using Chart.js and HighCharts.
Implemented the database layer logic to serve to the California Digital Vaccine Record application. This included data deduplication, ETL processes, creation of database views/ schemas, and performance optimizations. Assisted in API development.
Principal Technical Architect of the Digital Vaccine Remediation Portal. This application has been used by dozens of employees at the California Dept. of Public Health to assist almost 1 million patients who couldn't otherwise obtain their COVID Digital Vaccine Record. Built with Node.js, React.js, and C#/.NET Core 5.
Worked in the Security Operations Center performing Tier 1 Cybersecurity and Network Analysis, as well as scripting in Python for internal projects. Wrote scripts that automated workflows to update YAML conifg files. Built a Python program to interface with MITRE servers using the STIX and TAXII libraries, retrieving data and processing it into usable structures to generate custom reports and queries. Constructed Splunk dashboards using HTML and Splunk SPL to monitor domestic and foreign threats to state networks.
Worked under the mentorship of faculty in the College of Engineering in collaboration with the UC Davis Institute of Transportation Studies to complete my Engineering Senior Design project. Built a new version of a consumer facing web application to educate drivers on how much money they will save by using electric cars. The project required working with various technologies including Angular, Node.js, D3 (data visualization), Express, Docker, Google Maps APIs, and FuelEconomy.gov APIs.
