A highlight was building AI agents to perform KYC and UW at onboarding, unlocking instant approvals. 2023-2024 - Served as the Tech Lead for Risk Engineering at Brex (3 teams / ~40 people), including Fraud Risk, Onboarding, and User management. Also directly managed the Fraud Risk team for 8 months while continuing to perform my role as TL. - Led an initiative to increase the adoption of Brex’s Bill Pay product, doubling the rate of adoption among existing customers, and bringing the feature to GA by identifying and resolving many Compliance and UX barriers. ### Engineering Manager @ Brex Jan 2020 – Jan 2023 | San Francisco, California, United States - Engineering Manager for both the KYC/AML and Fraud Risk teams, working closely with DS, Product and Operations to architect Brex’s Risk Stack. - Scaled two risk teams from their inception up to 12 reports, directly managing one other EM. - Grew multiple engineers into Staff and EM roles, as well as many junior engineers to senior roles. - Designed and nurtured a core set of 0-1 platforms including a rules engine and workflow automation platform to support risk controls at Brex across onboarding and money movement flows. ### Senior Software Engineer @ Brex Jan 2019 – Jan 2020 | San Francisco Bay Area - Was a leading member of the team rearchitecting Brex’s onboarding / KYC services in support of the Brex Deposits product launch. - Developed multiple microservices in Elixir and Python using Kubernetes, Kafka, gRPC and GraphQL - Led an initiative consisting of ~8 engineers to optimize KYC automation at onboarding, doubling the number of applicants instantly approved. ### Senior Software Engineer @ Unbounce Jan 2018 – Jan 2019 | Vancouver, Canada Area - Was technical lead on a team of four engineers, enforcing agile methodologies and working with senior leadership on major technical roadmaps. - Worked to reduce tech debt by consolidating fractured frontend applications into a single project using a monorepo. This streamlined development and reduced load-times - Built a serverless image transformation service using AWS Lambda and Cloudformation - Introduced GraphQL to standardize communication between the client and server.
