# Janice Yang > SWE @ Waymo | CS @ MIT Location: San Francisco Bay Area, United States Profile: https://flows.cv/janice I am interested in the responsible development and deployment of AI systems across a wide range of domains. I love working with people with a diverse array of both technical and non-technical perspectives to pursue impactful work. ## Work Experience ### Software Engineer @ Waymo Jan 2023 – Present | San Francisco Bay Area Software Engineer on the Planning team, working on trajectory generation, ML recall, and evaluations. ### Research Assistant @ MIT Computer Science and Artificial Intelligence Laboratory (CSAIL) Jan 2021 – Jan 2023 I was a research assistant in Prof. Regina Barzilay's group: * Worked on multimodal prostate cancer risk prediction that exceeded radiologist benchmarks * Created deep learning models to analyze temporal drift on electronic health records data, with results published in STAT News. ### Software Engineer Intern @ Nuro Jan 2022 – Jan 2022 | Mountain View, California, United States Intern on the Perception Team, worked on Lidar point cloud semantic segmentation models. ### Extreme Blue Technical Intern @ IBM Jan 2021 – Jan 2021 I was a Software Development and Machine Learning intern on the Cloud and Cognitive Software team, working on Machine Learning model management for Edge Computing applications. I developed AI models and worked on integrating IBM products to create a full MLOps lifecycle. ### Machine Learning Undergraduate Research Assistant @ MIT Sloan School of Management Jan 2020 – Jan 2020 As part of a team in the Operations Research Center, I implemented a novel MDP-based Reinforcement Learning algorithm for optimal decision-making, and spearheaded efforts to immediately apply it to modeling healthcare problems such as HIV and COVID-19. I was responsible for creating the majority of the algorithm’s code base in Python, and executing the team’s key validation experiments comparing the algorithm's performance with other RL methods. ### Machine Learning Engineer @ E.sun Financial Holding Co., Ltd Jan 2020 – Jan 2020 | Taipei, Taiwan As a summer intern in the Intelligent Finance Division, I worked on improving Computer Vision pipelines by testing new CRNN models for Chinese character recognition, as well as on designing features from global datasets that boosted the accuracy of short-term currency prediction ML models by 5-10% (using scikit-learn and lightGBM). ### Campus Involvement Director @ TEDxMIT Jan 2019 – Jan 2019 I served on the Founding team of students helping host MIT's inaugural TEDx conferences. As Campus Involvement Chair, I planned TED week and other events to increase visibility and student participation. ### Business Intelligence Intern @ Preen.Me Jan 2019 – Jan 2019 | Tel Aviv Area, Israel I performed quantitative data analysis on millions of social media conversations of various consumer products and brands to identify trends, which I then consolidated with qualitative focus group research into client deliverables. In total, I worked on 4 brand projects, across not just the BI but also the Business Development and Marketing teams. I also spearheaded efforts to identify how social media activity impacted companies' revenue streams. ### Summer Research Intern @ Boon Associates LLC Jan 2017 – Jan 2017 | Taipei City, Taiwan I conducted research on various aspects of Chinese economic growth, specializing in the topics of real estate and shadow banking. I then used my findings to make decks of political and economic forecasts in consultation with my advisor. ## Education ### Master of Engineering - MEng Massachusetts Institute of Technology Jan 2022 – Jan 2023 ### Bachelor's degree in Computer Science Massachusetts Institute of Technology Jan 2018 – Jan 2022 ### Taipei American School Jan 2005 – Jan 2018 ## Contact & Social - LinkedIn: https://linkedin.com/in/janiceyang22 --- Source: https://flows.cv/janice JSON Resume: https://flows.cv/janice/resume.json Last updated: 2026-03-23
