I research, design, and develop tutorials, screencasts, and courses to help developers learn and stay up to date with the latest and greatest technologies and trends. ### Contract Software Engineer @ Digs Jan 2022 – Present | Portland, Oregon, United States Built original MVP, and now operate as a Technical Advisor and contract engineer. Helping build out enhancements like email reply handling, and building out the Home Owner Experience dashboard where home owners can manage their newly built home. ### Staff Frontend Engineer @ Blend Jan 2021 – Jan 2023 I worked as a technical lead, and go to resource for a my medium sized team focused on our lender application. Initially the focus was building a strategy to remove the remaining Angular from our application. I built a plan, divided up work, and led a team of 3 to successfully remove Angular while verifying and validating existing functionality was not lost. This included single handily refactoring thousands of tests from Enzyme to RTL. With a focus on improving our customers self-service capabilities. I led a team of 3 to design, plan, and build a way that exposes custom admin configurations to our customers that integrated into our existing permission system. This allowed for other teams to leverage our work to expose configurations safely to customers. I additionally led a small team, while collaborating with a cross functional team, product managers, and customers to build out a highly requested group management, hierarchical data access feature. Enabling our customers to build out exact data access structures to the loans their employees needed to get their job done. This included working with Mongo, Elastic Search, Postgres, Go, Node.js, and React. With a focus on performance, I was able to optimize our build system and decrease our bundle size by 10x while also speeding up our builds, and test run times. I gave multiple talks, and help set patterns across our frontend organization for modern data loading with React Query, and forms with react-hook-form. ### Lead Software Engineer @ Brave Care Jan 2019 – Jan 2021 | Portland, Oregon Area As the first technical hire my focus was setting the technology stack on the right path. After a few tests, and working with our CTO, we crafted our stack which included React, Next.js, TypeScript, React Native, GraphQL, and Hasura as well as a few other modern technologies. This allowed for us to quickly iterate on internal and external facing pieces of our application while maintaining HIPAA compliance. We delivered technology that improved the lives of our staff, parents, and children. I had an integral part in all aspects of development. I would spec out features with product, write tickets, and work with teammates to enhance our system. This included talking with our internal medical staff, collecting feedback, and iterating on what was or was not working. One of the largest features I worked on was a custom scheduling system. I worked with our Chief Medical Officer, and staff to gather how they wanted to build out staff scheduling. I then built out a real time scheduling system that integrated with our external website, including a reservation system, and more. In the end we had our stack powering our website, internal EHR-lite, parent facing mobile application, internal app for medical staff on iPads, as well as a React Native Desktop mac application. ### Senior Frontend Developer @ Streem, Inc. Jan 2018 – Jan 2019 | Portland, Oregon Area Helped build out our web application that allowed for augmented reality video streams in the browser. Parsing Twilio video frames, and our patented technique I was able to build interactive AR streams using React Three Fiber. Including adding text and arrows into 3D space that would then show up in shared space for our web, and mobile users. I additionally built out our web SDK that enabled our customers to embed and customize our AR experience in their own sites, or CRMs. ### Lead Frontend Developer @ Third Party Technologies (acquired by Square) Jan 2017 – Jan 2018 | Portland, Oregon Area Inspired by stripe I focused on developing the best interactive documentation leveraging Next.JS and building a custom swagger form interpreter. Additionally integrating into a demo environment so users could experience the breadth of our API with ease. Additionally I supported our backend writing GoLang. Finally I wrote a white labeled web application, and mobile application for stock trading using Next.js and React Native. This opened up a new way for our customers to start a company with ease while leveraging out platform. ### Lead Frontend Developer @ Mirador Tech Jan 2016 – Jan 2017 | Portland, Oregon Area As the first full time frontend developer, I was tasked with modernizing our application. I incrementally converted our app from FreeMarker Java templates to a single page application with React, and React Router. I wrote custom webpack configurations that optimized our production builds, and for development enabled hot module updating. This helped us avoid a complete rewrite, while improving test coverage from 0% to 80%. I eventually led a team of 3 which would include me collaborating with product and design to decided what we could accomplish to deliver to our customers quickly, while still accomplishing the features they needed. ### Frontend Developer @ Jama Software Jan 2013 – Jan 2015 Worked closely with product and provided input and technical details into how to achieve or build a UI. Worked extensively with our designers to implement each UI piece in detail so that it was pixel perfect and provided the exact user experience desirred. Migrated our AMD modules to CommonJS, reworked our build system to take advantage of webpack and hot reloading. Helped develop a strategy to move our ExtJS application piece by piece to a ReactJS application with great success. Converted our set of Mocha/Chai tests to Jest. Mentored Junior developers through pair programming. ### Front End + PHP Developer @ LogicBox Software, Inc.
