Building new distributed systems/databases/caches, super exciting!

Staff Engineer supporting the Online Databases org. Primarily working with the DocumentDB team, which operates and supports MongoDB for most OLTP uses. I oversee the end-to-end OLTP infrastructure for our massive MongoDB deployment. Projects include improved durability, database upgrades, client SDKs, and diving into the internals of MongoDB to support the operation of it. Currently leading efficiency efforts to run MongoDB on arm64-based cloud instances (AWS gravitons).

Researched, launched, supported, and contributed to CockroachDB at Netlfix. We had a need for highly-available, multi-region, transactional SQL databases, and CockroachDB fit the bill. I worked closely with engineering at CockroachLabs to resolve bugs and get features added to support Netflix use cases.

I work on the Apache Cassandra team at Apple. In addition to supporting the operation of Cassandra at Apple's massive scale, I rewrote Cassandra's inter-node networking layer for messaging (CASSANDRA-8457) and file streaming (CASSANDRA-12229). Earlier I worked on the Applied Machine Learning team at Apple, where my team reimplemented secondary indices for Cassandra, code named SASI.

I led a small team that was the first adopter of Cassandra at Netflix as well as running the AB testing infrastructure. Migrated several services out of Netflix's datacenter and into our EC2 deployment. Now working on Cassandra and related tooling. Delivered several internal talks on topics such as Cassandra as well as HTTP caching/Squid.
