# Jason Y. Morlon > Product Design Engineer | Creative & Technical Producer | Hardware & Software | R&D · Prototyping · Maker | Event Production | Manufacturing · US & Shenzhen | Quality Control & Sourcing | Hardware Founder · USMC Veteran Location: San Francisco, California, United States Profile: https://flows.cv/jasonymorlon There's a specific kind of clarity that comes from 20+ years moving across print and digital design, software development, live event production, hardware product QC, precision manufacturing, and more recently AI/LLM design and development. You start to understand how the people, the processes, and the tools all work together. You learn to spot weak points, points of failure, and where things can be improved or simplified. I didn't plan a non-linear career, but I'm genuinely curious about how things work, and it's that curiosity and desire to learn more which kept pulling me from one field to the next. Over time those fields stopped being separate, and started feeding each other. That built something hard to replicate: an instinct for where things connect, where they break, and how thinking from one field can solve a problem in another. I work at the seam between departments, in the grey area where ownership gets fuzzy and the real work gets done, and that's where I do my best work. I move through the full lifecycle, from idea through research, design, prototyping, testing, and delivery, and I care about the whole thing landing, not just my part. I'm a USMC veteran, so when I say I thrive whether leading the charge or supporting the team on a simple task or an entire campaign, I'm not just saying it to sound good on paper. ## Work Experience ### Freelance Product Design & Engineering | Founder @ SWIVIT Jan 2022 – Present | San Francisco Bay Area Originally founded in 2012 from the invention and retail launch of a consumer hardware product, Swivit transitioned to an independent design and development studio. I apply a diverse background in digital creative and technical work alongside experience in hardware product design, quality control, and manufacturing to focus on projects that address interesting or common problems with practical solutions. Current and recent projects include IP design for a custom direct drive motor concept, custom hardware controls for racing and flight simulation, an adaptive game controller designed for individuals with physical and neurological differences, and various creative projects from brand identity to software applications. I also work extensively with AI/LLM tooling, building multi-agent systems, configuring local and frontier model pipelines, and using AI-assisted development across all project types. My daily workflow includes Claude Code, ChatGPT Codex, Cursor, ComfyUI, and several local model environments for everything from software development to hardware product design to creative production. ### Quality Control & Strategic Sourcing Engineer @ Fictiv Jan 2017 – Jan 2022 | San Francisco Bay Area Fictiv is an on-demand manufacturing platform connecting companies with a vetted network of manufacturing partners for prototyping and production. I played a central role in quality control for customers including Apple, JPL (NASA), Honeywell, Ford, Peloton, and others across consumer product, aerospace, automotive, robotics, medical, and fitness industries. Conducted detailed virtual and hands-on inspections of incoming 3D printed, CNC machined, sheet metal, and injection molded parts (prototype through production) against customer specifications and industry standards including ISO and AS9100. Helped improve on-time-in-full delivery from roughly 90% to 95-97% by establishing better guidelines, standards, and expectations for manufacturing partners. Entrusted with handling proprietary designs and sensitive IP, including parts for NASA rovers and satellites, with strict adherence to data protection and compliance protocols. Key contributions: • Co-led business relocation and expansion from 5,000 to 20,000 sq/ft with a 3-person team in under 2 months. Oversaw planning, equipment sourcing, deployment logistics, and network/office system installation. Zero downtime during the transition. • Completed a one-year rotation with the Strategic Sourcing team. On-boarded over 20 qualified manufacturing vendors to the network, including niche specialty shops for hard metals. Improved vetting, on-boarding, and testing protocols. • Helped build and transition to a proprietary virtual QC platform during the pandemic. Helped transition 5-6 person QC team to fully remote operations, enabling office closure and reducing company overhead and burn rate. • Contributed insights to the design and development of the proprietary QA/QC and part tracking application, improving production management efficiency and response times across manufacturing partners, QC, and customers. ### Founder, Operations Manager & Product Design Engineer @ SWIVIT Jan 2012 – Jan 2017 | San Francisco Bay Area I identified a pain point in the action camera market and turned a napkin sketch into a product venture. Designed, patented, and brought to market the first 360-degree camera mount compatible with GoPro, Garmin, Contour, and other popular action cameras. The mount improved how people captured footage by enabling multi-angle shot adjustments without disrupting the activity, reducing setup time and missed moments. Managed the entire product lifecycle: prototyping, testing, DFM, quality control, supplier coordination, assembly, packaging, inventory management, and global distribution. This was a solo venture from day one, covering everything from industrial design to legal to fulfillment. Key results: • Raised $30K through an Indiegogo crowdfunding campaign and roughly $100K through a friends-and-family seed round, supplemented with $25K+ in personal funds. Fulfilled 4,700+ orders across 55 countries, personally handling all order processing and shipment. • Designed mounts using Lexan 1414, a hockey mask-grade polycarbonate rated for 150mph+ impacts. The result: zero product returns or failures, compared to the high failure rates reported with similar products from major manufacturers. • Held licensing and partnership discussions with the US Air Force and the CEO of Incase, validating product-market fit and commercial potential beyond consumer retail. • Conducted thorough research to ensure uniqueness and feasibility, laying the groundwork for IP protection. Wrote the provisional patent, leading to a USPTO issued patent (Multi-Directional Rotational Mount). ### Executive Producer @ Helios Interactive (A Freeman Company) Jan 2009 – Jan 2012 Helios Interactive was a creative technology studio specializing in interactive experiences for trade shows, live events, retail environments, and corporate spaces. I produced and deployed roughly 115 interactive projects, from mobile apps and large-format touchscreen experiences to gesture-driven media installations, for well-known brands and companies at events across 15+ cities worldwide including London, Munich, NYC, Chicago, and Las Vegas. Co-managed project budgets ranging from $50K to $500K and teams of up to 7 people. About 90% of projects required travel outside the SF Bay Area. I worked with internal and client stakeholders to define goals, project scope, budgets, and expectations throughout development cycles. Coordinated with design and engineering teams to make sure client objectives and technical requirements were met. Managed hardware fabrication, on-site installation teams including union labor and AV crews, and handled logistics and shipping for equipment and personnel. Key projects and contributions: • Built interactive experiences for Salesforce, Macy's, Audi, IBM (Watson), Emirates, Nintendo, Samsung, Intel, Roche, and Nickelodeon. • Deployed installations at events including CES, Comic-Con, Dreamforce, the US Open of Tennis, Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade, Outside Lands, and Universal Orlando. • Notable: a 10-foot iPad replica with a 94-inch touchscreen at Dreamforce, and a motion-activated installation using 4 sets of actual Audi headlights at Audi Forum NYC. • Took projects from controlled test environments to live events, managing location and environmental constraints alongside varied user conditions, from crowded trade show floors to quiet retail spaces. • Created project protocols, charters, and operational frameworks for creative and technical teams that improved delivery consistency across the studio. ### Front End Developer / Producer @ Dun & Bradstreet Digital (AllBusiness.com) Jan 2008 – Jan 2009 | San Francisco, CA One of two front end developers/producers for a business portal with upwards of 5.5 million unique monthly visitors.
