# Jasper Taylor > Senior Software Engineer @ Makai Ocean Engineering | PhD in Physics (Quantum Algorithms) Location: Boulder, Colorado, United States Profile: https://flows.cv/jaspertaylor I am naturally drawn to solving challenging problems, and love to push myself past my limits and into the unknown. I'm addicted to the feeling of accomplishing the improbable in both my professional and personal life. I also hold a deep appreciation for bringing and creating fun in my life and the lives of those around me. For me, bringing a sense of enjoyment to the team and to the world at large is essential. I take pride in transforming the routine into the delightful. Because, after all, humanity has advanced, when it has advanced, not because it has been responsible, and cautious, but because it has been playful, and rebellious. ## Work Experience ### Senior Software Engineer @ Makai Ocean Engineering, Inc. Jan 2024 – Present | Honolulu, Hawaii, United States Architect and software lead for an end-to-end product that leverages machine learning to transform Sonar data into 3D worlds which were automatically rendered in Unreal Engine, Gazebo Isaac Sim, or Gazebo (python React, javascript, electron, CUDA, pytorch). I also wrote ROS 2 for various underwater robotics products, and contributed to Makai's flagship commercial software (Makai Plan, Makai Plan Pro Makai Lay, in C#/C++). ### Senior Software Engineer @ Allium Data Jan 2023 – Jan 2024 | Honolulu, Hawaii, United States Developed and implemented AI agents to use Generative AI, OCR, and Email Webhooks tools, to create an to efficiently scrape insurance data from diverse PDF and image sources, and upload them to our database. ### Applied Physicist/Software Engineer @ Oceanit Jan 2021 – Jan 2023 | Honolulu, Hawaii, United States Developed a neural network using PyTorch to predict binding energies of nucleic acid-protein pairs. This was part of a multidisciplinary team at Oceanit, focused on creating a Covid-19 detection test. ### Graduate Research Assistant @ University of Hawaii at Manoa Jan 2013 – Jan 2020 Created novel quantum lattice gas algorithms for the simulation of the non-Abelian physics of spin-2 BECs, and of 2 particle systems. The entire algorithm was written CUDA. This included writing sophisticated 3D visualization to aid with the understanding of the entire 5 dimensional spin manifold of the spin-2 BECs ## Education ### Doctor of Philosophy - PhD in Physics University of Hawaii at Manoa Jan 2015 – Jan 2021 ### Master's degree in Physics University of Hawaii at Manoa Jan 2013 – Jan 2015 ### Bachelor's degree in Physics University of Washington Jan 2007 – Jan 2011 ## Contact & Social - LinkedIn: https://linkedin.com/in/jasper-taylor-908354214 --- Source: https://flows.cv/jaspertaylor JSON Resume: https://flows.cv/jaspertaylor/resume.json Last updated: 2026-03-22
