Peer awards: 25 received, 32 given. Made core system tradeoffs affecting latency, including camera geometry, sensor type, exposure, optics, flash synchronization, camera parallelism, compute parallelism, sensor readout strategy, and fidelity to training data. The second system improved latency by 3X and pixel throughput by 24X. Designed and executed numerous lab experiments, including aerodynamic and hydrodynamic performance on a 7 m/s indoor spray track. Hardware in the loop enabled calibration and validation. Integrated visual, infrared, X-ray, multispectral, thermal cameras, and RTK satellite positioning on a combined fleet of nearly 100 vehicles deployed on three continents. ### Member of Technical Staff @ Google Jan 2006 – Jan 2019 | Mountain View, California, United States Improved digitization quality of tens of millions of library books via improvements to inhouse industrial scanning hardware, computer vision detectors and better image processing. Combined, the "every page readable" error rate dropped more then 10X. Peer awards: 45 received, 55 given. Wrote a glyphless, script agnostic searchable PDF book representation. Approach is now widespread including implementations in Leptonica and Tesseract open source libraries. Improved PDF rendering performance 10X in Pdfium/Chrome by caching JBIG2 decode between pages. Wrote all software for the first prototype Linear Book Scanner, including motor control, optical position tracking, and modifying device drivers for contact imaging sensors. ### Research Staff @ PARC Jan 2000 – Jan 2006 | Palo Alto, California, United States Dataglyph project lead, co-author of core software library. Implemented halftoning, address carpets, support for additional image formats and platforms. Represented Xerox in symbology standards body. Invented and deployed DataGlyph web service, GlyphSeals analog/digital hybrid paper documents, Glymmer spatial accuracy test and measurement system, GlyphChess demonstration system. ### Engineer @ Pulsent Corporation Jan 1999 – Jan 2000 Codec performance evaluation and optimization of novel video compression algorithm. ### Engineeer @ Invengen LLC Jan 1997 – Jan 1998 Implemented certificate management system using C++, PKI, network protocols. ### Internship @ Fujitsu Laboratories, Ltd. Jan 1995 – Jan 1995 | Kawasaki, Japan Evaluated devices and performed wavelength division multiplexing experiments using optical fiber. ### Undergraduate Research Opportunity (UROP) @ MIT Media Lab Jan 1993 – Jan 1994 Optical holography at the Spatial Imaging Lab (Steve Benton), MIT Media Lab. Develop computer codes for generating holographic optical elements, experiments to support holographic hardcopy. ## Education ### Master of Engineering - MEng in Electrical Engineering and Computer Science Massachusetts Institute of Technology ### Bachelor of Science - BS in Electrical Engineering and Computer Science Massachusetts Institute of Technology ## Contact & Social - LinkedIn: https://linkedin.com/in/jeff-breidenbach-47aa312a5 --- Source: https://flows.cv/jeffbreidenbach JSON Resume: https://flows.cv/jeffbreidenbach/resume.json Last updated: 2026-04-10
