Data Ingestion Team

The data ingestion team was responsible for the development and maintenance of Samsara's time series data store system, which collected data from IOT gateways and third party sources and made it usable.

• Designed and implemented mechanisms to optimize AWS S3 costs of underlying data store system, achieving savings of more than $700k/year.

• Lead cross-functional efforts between firmware and backend to provide additional functionality to IOT gateways. This included, but was not limited to, the building and maintenance of additional AWS infrastructure to provide faster device configuration, reduced over the wire data usage, and reduced disk space requirements via new protocol design.

Industrial Machine Vision

The industrial machine vision team was a small, agile business unit responsible for bootstrapping new hardware and software products for machine vision use cases within the industrial space.

• Implemented various IoT related features for sensors and gateways, including networking configuration, device provisioning, and OTA upgrades.

• Designed and implemented firmware features for ARM Cortex-M3 embedded system using UART, SPI, USB, I2C, timer peripherals, INAs, ADCs, DACs, and custom protocols

• Gained experience writing low level real-time code, test harnesses, and peripheral drivers

• Learned and used Swift for MacOS application development used in communicating with embedded system

• Designed and implemented feature sets for internal automation framework of iOS software components using Python

• Prototyped Arduino board that interfaces with high voltage hardware

• Designed and refactored multicast packet detection software module for IP-based video service router using C and C++ in a Linux system

• Developed a C-script and an accompanying webpage for converting binary settings data to JSON format

• Refactored profiling module to measure peak bandwidth consumption in video router
