# Jeffery Cheng > SWE @ Databricks | CS @ Berkeley Location: Berkeley, California, United States Profile: https://flows.cv/jefferycheng I graduated with a CS degree from UC Berkeley and am now working as a full-time software engineer at Databricks. I'm a passionate tech learner and enjoy tackling challenging problems as I dabble in innovating new solutions. I'm a coffee addict who enjoys any outdoor activities or immersing myself in hour long engaging conversations. Looking to expand my network! Let's connect and chat :) ## Work Experience ### Software Engineer @ Databricks Jan 2023 – Present ### Software Engineer Intern @ Databricks Jan 2022 – Jan 2023 | San Francisco Bay Area I joined the Delta Lives Table team where I worked on data sample preview, building a new end to end feature for sampling large datasets processed and transformed in data pipelines. I leveraged internal Spark APIs to overcome data sampling for streaming queries (incrementalization) where data isn't reprocessed. I orchestrated a new framework that enabled me to expose data transformed on-the-fly to external modules, extending this data sample project to support dataset not persisted as well as further use cases to improve observability and user debugging experience. I productionized the project by implementing event truncation to improve service stability and was able to ship it to production. ### Undergraduate Researcher @ Berkeley RISE Lab Jan 2022 – Jan 2023 | Berkeley, California, United States Research project, RALF, led by Sarah Wooders and advised by Professor Joseph Gonzalez on improving real time performance of feature stores. I contributed to the open-sourced RALF client, enabling writing feature transformations and querying target tables and load-tested various database connectors to optimize query latency for existing workloads. To support latency and accuracy benchmarks, I designed and built a benchmarking framework that ingests raw data from Kafka streams with sharding policies, leveraging Ray’s distributed data processing with autoscaling kubernetes cluster on AWS EC2 instances. https://github.com/feature-store/ralf ### Software Development Engineer Intern @ Amazon Web Services (AWS) Jan 2021 – Jan 2021 | Seattle, Washington, United States I joined the Application Discovery Team under the Migration services for AWS, working on a customer facing feature for the ingestion workflow. I designed and built a deployment infrastructure for database schema upgrades for resources in 3,000+ existing customers’ accounts for additional data delivery streams. This project integrates automatic deployment into existing services to support immediate updates of new message types, reducing dependencies between teams to push changes into production while ensuring backward compatibility for existing users. During my time at AWS, I've learned to design more scalable systems that reduce stress on both development time and resource consumption. ### Full Stack Engineer Intern @ Jubily, Inc. Jan 2021 – Jan 2021 | California, United States I joined Jubily as a fullstack web development intern, primarily working on the search and profile pages for the healthcare providers. I worked on optimizing search queries and management of healthcare providers' registration and profile information. ### Product Management Intern @ OS1 Jan 2021 – Jan 2021 | Virtual OS1 is a tech startup that aims to provide a comprehensive and integrated set of business resource management tools that's easily customizable for consumer's needs. I joined as a product management intern specifically to design the architecture of the system and define key product features that consumers would need through market analysis. I prototyped a project management module with customizable widgets in Figma. ### Software Engineer Intern @ Studycat Jan 2020 – Jan 2020 | South District, Taiwan During my time in Study Cat, I mainly worked on a test harnessing system in node to automate mobile game testing as part of the CI/CD pipeline. It enables recording tests of gameplays with macros’ recording and generates comprehensive test reports comparing snapshots of the game state. I also wrote a python script for assets compression that tracks changes made and required procedures to reduce compression time by more than 70% and implemented authentication protocol for user logins in mobile apps that goes through AWS lambdas and hits the WordPress PHP endpoint. ### Assistant Coach @ Taiwan Debate Union 台灣英語辯論協會 Jan 2019 – Jan 2020 | Taiwan Help train debaters in Taiwanese Development Pool and National Pool. ### Debater @ Taiwan Debate Union 台灣英語辯論協會 Jan 2017 – Jan 2019 | Taiwan Represent Taiwan in World Schools Debate, Asian and British Parliamentary Debate tournaments. - 2019 AWSDC Octo-finalist & 12th best overall Speaker - 2019 Fuhsing Debate Open Champion and Best Speaker - 2018 Taiwan Pre-NEAO Tournament Grand-Finalist, 6th Best Overall and Best High School Speaker - 2018 WSDC Team Taiwan Team - 2018 Prague Debate Spring Octofinalist and Top 25 best speakers ## Education ### Undergraduate in Computer Science University of California, Berkeley ### International Bilingual School at Tainan ## Contact & Social - LinkedIn: https://linkedin.com/in/jeffery-cheng-8a7180175 --- Source: https://flows.cv/jefferycheng JSON Resume: https://flows.cv/jefferycheng/resume.json Last updated: 2026-04-05
