I lead engineering on Spatial's web app (our biggest platform) and I also contribute heavily to the mobile app (our second biggest platform). I'm most proud of how quickly our team ships features (like any good startup) while finding time to incrementally adopt new, efficient technologies. I've led the migration of a legacy web app (JS, custom webpack, React class components, no tests) to a modern stack (Next.js, Typescript, functional React, Tailwind, Jest, Playwright). ### Software Engineer @ Spatial Jan 2021 – Jan 2022 ### Project Lead @ UW Blueprint Jan 2021 – Jan 2021 I led a team of developers, designers, and PMs to build a fundraising platform for Raising the Roof's annual toque campaign. This campaign has raised over $8 million! ### Project Lead @ Tech+ UW Jan 2021 – Jan 2021 I co-organized the Tech+ Mentorship and Coffee Chat programs, supporting 100+ mentor/mentee pairs and 200+ coffee chats. Tech+ is building a more inclusive, diverse tech community at UWaterloo. ### Software Engineer @ Spatial Jan 2020 – Jan 2021 Spatial is re-imagining collaboration and remote work. I helped build the webapp (Spatial's 2nd-biggest platform) and launch the mobile app. React, React Native, TypeScript, WebAssembly, WebRTC, Three.js, Unity, and more. ### Frontend Engineer @ Verkada Jan 2019 – Jan 2019 | San Mateo I worked on Verkada Access Control, a new product vertical that helped the company on its way to doubling its market cap. Access Control launched ahead of schedule and brought in revenue over 5x original projections. As 1 of 2 web engineers, I helped develop the web application (React, Redux, TypeScript). I worked closely with design, product, and other engineers and also interfaced directly with beta customers to gather feedback and refine the product features. Features I built include a drag-and-drop calendar interface, low-latency video playback, on-hover previews, QR code scanner, and WebSocket interfacing logic. ### Software Engineer @ Rakuten Jan 2018 – Jan 2019 | Tokyo, Japan I owned the architecture, engineering, and release of a critical JavaScript widget that's served over 2 million times daily across all Rakuten services. The widget is Rakuten's first line of defense against fraud. The application was written in Elm, TypeScript, and Go. I wrote comprehensive tests and documentation, dockerized the apps, set up CI/CD pipelines, and deployed with Kubernetes. I helped manage the roadmap and day-to-day tasks. I also took initiatives to give tech talks on software development best practices and directly supported clients to integrate our widget and resolve issues. ### Technical Engineer @ University of Waterloo NanoRobotics Group Jan 2016 – Jan 2019 | University of Waterloo The UWaterloo NanoRobotics Group explores cutting-edge technology to build robots smaller than the width of a strand of hair. As a senior technical engineer, I helped the team win the ICRA Mobile Microrobotics Challenge twice in five years. I led the design of a high-frequency amplifying circuit powering the team's first fully-fluid robot. I helped bridge the gap between the software and hardware teams and led the team's recruitment efforts. ### Product Manager @ Genesys Jan 2018 – Jan 2018 | Toronto, Canada Area I worked cross-functionally to ensure all team members were focused and aligned on a common product vision. I defined product scope, goals, and deliverables by consolidating data, customer feedback, company strategy, and personal intuition. I shortened the iteration cycle of our development cycle by 300% by leading the transition of the team to an Agile (Scrum) workflow. Finally, I explored ways to enhance current products with new technologies, including conversational AI and voice assistants. ## Education ### Bachelor of Applied Science - BASc in Computer Engineering University of Waterloo Jan 2016 – Jan 2021 ### Bachelor of Applied Science - BASc in Computer Engineering National University of Singapore Jan 2020 – Jan 2020 ### International Baccalaureate Program St. Francis Xavier Secondary School Jan 2012 – Jan 2016 ## Contact & Social - LinkedIn: https://linkedin.com/in/jzxhuang - Website: https://jzxhuang.com/ - GitHub: https://github.com/jzxhuang --- Source: https://flows.cv/jeffreyhuang JSON Resume: https://flows.cv/jeffreyhuang/resume.json Last updated: 2026-03-29
