# Jeroen Coumans > Product Designer & Frontend Developer Location: Amsterdam, North Holland, Netherlands Profile: https://flows.cv/jeroencoumans Specialties: CSS, HTML, Javascript, Front-end, Usability, User Experience, Interaction Design, Design Process, Product Design, Product Management ## Work Experience ### Product Designer & Frontend Developer @ HubStar Jan 2021 – Jan 2026 | Amsterdam, North Holland, Netherlands ### CPO & Co-founder @ Lone Rooftop Jan 2014 – Jan 2021 Lone Rooftop connects with existing Wifi networks and sensors in the office building or University, and unifies this data to provide users with powerful utilization data dashboards. This was my second venture, which I co-founded with a former Hyves colleague. We discovered that important (financial) real-estate and facility management decisions are based on historical decisions instead of data. We set out to create the "Google Analytics for buildings" by using the data that is already present - namely, Wifi probes. We built a POC based on data that we gathered in a small office space where we installed our own Wifi network with location-based services. By creating a small visualization that displayed how Wifi probes of devices were moving around this 100m2 area, we were able to tell a convicing story that got our initial contract with two pilot customers that provided us with seed capital to build out our prototype and recruit a third co-founder as CTO. Throughout the years, I've always tried to maintain a focus on creating the most product value for our users through innovative and user-friendly interfaces to analyze and interact with the data that we collect. As the company expanded, I've lead front-end developers but also expanded into the CPO role, creating roadmaps, managing the product team (consisting of frontend, backend and data science), interacting with customers, supporting (pre) sales and marketing, etc. When our CTO left, I also took over the CTO & Information Security Officer role and successfully lead the company through ISO27001 and ISO27010 certification. The sale of Lone Rooftop to Hubstar meant I could focus again on what I mostly love doing: creating exceptional products with a user-friendly interface. ### Co-founder & Product Designer @ The ANT Works Jan 2014 – Jan 2014 At The ANT Works we aimed to become the navigators of science and technology by visualizing big data sets based of patent and publication information. It used a unique network science perspective to enable rigorous fact-based decision-making. I joined as product developer and spearheaded the design and development of an initial MVP based on the (just-released) React. This was my first experience with data visualization and got me interested in further exploring client-side Javascript applications. Besides doing all of the development & design work, I also launched a marketing website and created a couple of case studies that attracted some media attention. Alas, we didn't succeed in attracting launching customers after the first POC and I left the company. ### Lead UX & Design @ TMG Online Media Jan 2012 – Jan 2013 I managed all design and frontend related activities for the core TMG Online Media products. I groomed a Design Team consisting of UX & Usability Researchers, UX & Interaction Designers, Visual Designers and Frontend Developers that has been pivotal in the success of numerous products. Besides that, I've been actively involved with both Business and Product teams on establishing a more streamlined product development process that started with design thinking, and I've spearheaded several efforts into modernising TMG's online presence in the form of internal pitches and 'design hackathons'. ### Lead Designer @ Hyves Jan 2009 – Jan 2012 As Lead Design I was responsible for all design related activities at Hyves, supporting primarily Product Managers and Developers with creating the interaction design, visual design and the frontend for new and existing features. I was responsible for designing and launching the new logged-in homepage in 2009, the logged-out homepage in 2010, and the redesign and rebranding in 2011. I grew the Design Team from 1 to 6 people. Besides this, I helped Marketing develop new viral communication channels and helped Sales create new sales and branding opportunities. ### Web Designer @ Jeroen Coumans Jan 2006 – Jan 2009 I worked on quite a lot of small to medium-sized projects in various roles and positions. For smaller web sites, I did the whole shebang: from defining target audience, communication plan, design and Photoshop mockups to final implementation of the website in whatever Open Source CMS fit best. For larger projects, I've worked in teams with designers, programmers, copywriters, IT staff etc. Mostly I was responsible for front-end development. In the case of www.cjp.be, I designed and created the complete website and managed third-party programmers and database implementors. CJP.be was up as a social networking site where volunteer youngsters can contribute reviews and articles. Lots of usability work was done to make this task as easy as possible for untrained people. ### Co-founder, board member @ LOSS Jan 2004 – Jan 2008 LOSS ("Limburgs platform voor Open Source en Standaarden") is a local Dutch platform of companies invested in Open Source Software, who want to spread realistic, unprejudiced information on OSS. As co-founder I've worked on establishing the platform mission and organisation, and created the initial website at http://loss-platform.org. ### Web Designer @ Solide Jan 2004 – Jan 2006 Responsible for the complete development trajectory of dozens of websites, from the initial user research, proof of concept, information architecture and visual design to implementation and deliverance. I was also responsible for the architecture and deployment of the hosting solutions and web application development methodology. Did an ethnographic research for the development of a virtual community and conducted a widely-reported research on the accessibility of municipal websites. ### Web Master @ Universiteit Maastricht Jan 2002 – Jan 2005 Responsible for the maintenance, design and all technical aspects of several websites. ### FAQ & Website maintainer @ Linux From Scratch Jan 2001 – Jan 2005 Linux From Scratch is a collaboratively written book that describes how to build your own Linux system, using nothing but the source packages. It's a volunteer effort led by a community of users, readers and contributors. I've been an active member on the support and development mailing lists (later, as official FAQ maintainer), and led the redesign of the website. ### Student consultant @ University of Maastricht Jan 2002 – Jan 2004 Active member of the student board (STOV), for which I setup a Wiki website, student consultant with the Educational Management Team and the ICT team. Worked as a student-assistent on an historical research on e-learning which was used for an international benchmark between universities. Worked as researcher for the PRIME network on a feasibility study on e-learning (report co-written with W. Bijker & E. Sol). ## Education ### Bachelor in Arts & Science Maastricht University ### Bachelor of Arts - BA in Communication & Multimedia Design Katholieke Hogeschool Limburg ## Contact & Social - LinkedIn: https://linkedin.com/in/jeroencoumans --- Source: https://flows.cv/jeroencoumans JSON Resume: https://flows.cv/jeroencoumans/resume.json Last updated: 2026-03-31
