During my tenure, I led News Feed, Stories, Reels, Communities, Ads, Identity, Navigation, and a range of other products and initiatives—overseeing an organization of roughly 600 designers. As part of my remit to raise the bar for Product Design, I established and led Facebook’s first design system, scaling it into a tool that was later replicated across Meta. During this time, I oversaw all aspects of Facebook’s visual language, including components, typography, iconography, and illustration—developing and shipping multiple iterations, including a full rebrand in 2018. I also established the Design Tools team, responsible for creating tools to improve quality, velocity, and craft. These tools are used by designers across Meta and include public tools such as Origami, which have influenced the broader design industry. I helped establish and scale Design Operations as a core function within product development, helping us increase capacity, and scale Product Design further. I also contributed to building People Operations, improving interview processes, driving demanding hiring goals whilst improving success rates for those we hired. As one of three founders, acted as Managing Director for the first year of the company’s development.
