Designed branding for BeyondCorp Enterprise, Chronicle, and other Cloud Security services/teams. ### Senior Interaction Designer @ Chronicle Jan 2018 – Jan 2019 | Mountain View, CA Born from X, the moonshot factory, Chronicle is the newest independent company within Alphabet. We are dedicated to helping companies find and stop cyber attacks before they cause harm. We work with the entire security industry to give good the advantage in the fight against cybercrime. ### Lead Product Designer @ ThinAir Jan 2017 – Jan 2018 | Mountain View, CA Led design for a new product and worked with CEO and Product Director to define the product vision based off a prior technology that the company built. Pushed product through to final design stages and directed the Front End Dev team in visual and interactive execution. Clarified new features and product concepts through prototyping and designed new UX concepts which resulted in better ease of use. Shipped product to paying customers within a year to kickstart revenue growth. ### Senior UX (Visual & Interaction) / Senior Communication Designer / Mentor @ Palantir Technologies Jan 2007 – Jan 2017 | Palo Alto, CA Led progress on the UX/UI, data visualizations, and visual design for Palantir’s Quantitative Analysis product (Metropolis) which initially ballooned Palantir’s revenue in the early years. Managed contract designers to get the V1 ready for launch. Palantir Metropolis supported growth and reshaped Palantir’s product trajectory as it transformed into modular and componentized web apps for the whole of Palantir. Designed initial products for cloud versions of Palantir as it moved to a web platform. Also, contributed to elevating Palantir’s external branding by contributing to Palantir’s brand research and guidelines. Identified organizational issues and set up processes and systems for the Communication Design team to increase the team’s efficiency and consistency. Mentored interns and prepped them for full-time positions at Palantir. During my tenure here, Palantir grew from a ~$40M company to a $20B company. ### Designer/Photographer @ Freelance Design Jan 1998 – Jan 2012 | SF Bay Area Design and Photography entity for freelance projects, which augmented self-growth in web, retail packaging, marketing, and project management. Worked with record labels, tech companies, publications, and retail packaging. Notable print work includes working with the Dead Kennedys, Green Day (The Network), Adeline Records (AFI), Lookout Records, New Red Archives (Anti-Flag, Swingin’ Utters, UK Subs), and MVD (Iggy Pop, Devo, Dead Kennedys, New York Dolls). Published photography includes concert photography (Green Day, Interpol, Weezer, Rancid, Rush, The Pixies, Nine Inch Nails, Soundgarden, Arcade Fire, The Flaming Lips, OK Go, Bloc Party, LCD Soundsystem, etc.) for East Bay Express, AMP, record labels; as well as lifestyle photos for WSJ, 7X7, Playboy, Food & Wine, Modern Luxury, Travel+Leisure, New York Magazine, NPR, SF Examiner, etc. ### Co-Founder/Publisher/Art Director @ AMP Magazine Group Jan 2002 – Jan 2010 | East Bay, CA Co-founded AMP (American Music Press) to showcase upcoming bands and mainstay artists in the punk/hardcore/indie/alternative music scenes, after having created the first Punk Rock calendar product for Hot Topic, who asked us to create new products for them. Created and designed AMP branding, layouts and templates, advertising, AMP merchandise, and AMP compilation CDs and DVDs. Art directed designers and photographers to create a consistent overall brand. Also shot photography for the magazine’s covers and spreads. AMP went from a free newsprint zine to a full color magazine in 3 years which was consistently sold out in Hot Topic. At the peak, we grew our distribution to over 80K units per month and shipped to major retailers like Tower, Barnes & Noble, Borders, & Newbury Comics. Additionally, other niche magazines were created: Hails & Horns (metal/hardcore/hard rock), Loud Fast Rules (garage/punk/noise); as well as music related toys and comics for Hot Topic. ### Design Lead & Director @ Lithium Technologies Jan 2006 – Jan 2007 | Emeryville, CA Designed and directed product UX with the front-end dev team. Designed the UI and workflow for social CRM features (user reviews, user ratings, live chat) for LIthium’s successful support communities platform, which expanded the core product into a social marketing platform. This positioned Lithium for new verticals, revenue growth, and new funding. ### Founder @ Substandard Records Jan 1998 – Jan 2007 | Berkeley, CA Independent record label from Berkeley, CA focusing on the punk/hardcore/indie genres. Helped produce and designed albums in CD/Vinyl formats; Ran marketing campaigns and advertising as well as in-house and contracted PR, which resulted in getting local Bay Area bands in press such as Rolling Stone Magazine, and in large-drawing festivals, such as Noise Pop. ### Creative Director, Web @ iWin, Inc. Jan 2006 – Jan 2006 | San Francisco, CA Led a small design team for the web marketing. Managed and maintained design for marketing and branding of the iWin brand to growth casual gameplay online. Redesigned the navigation and positioning of games on the iWin.com site which grew downloads and online play . ### Co-Founder / Design Lead & Director @ Lithium Technologies Jan 2001 – Jan 2006 | Emeryville, CA Co-founded Lithium by helping to transform the Gamers.com Forum properties into Support Communities for Lithium, which allowed enterprise customers the ability to reduce call center support costs, as Lithium Support Communities often became the first interaction for customer inquiries. Designed the UX architecture which enabled online peer-to-peer support and a searchable knowledge base with resolved and verified support issues. Designed gamification features to promote desirable social activity using our gaming industry knowledge. Successful launches included Dell, AT&T, Sprint, Nintendo & Sony PlayStation. Designed customer templates to allow for efficient visual and brand transfers. This enabled quicker launches once engagement began. ### Co-Founder / Design Lead & Director @ Gamers.com Jan 1997 – Jan 2001 | Berkeley, CA & Richmond, CA Initially designed as a gamers’ guide for properties like Quake, and Starcraft, Gamers.com morphed into the most comprehensive games portal (including board/card games as well as video games). Designed product features as well as profiles, content pages, and marketing and promotions, while managing a team of designers, freelance designers, and front end devs to build and maintain a diverse range of activities on the site. Also managed advertising and brand research/guidance with Wieden+Kennedy who helped come up with the brand attitude and tag line “A Moment Enjoyed is Not Wasted.” Also managed prototyping UX work and research with Rare Medium. Brand managed growing media properties: Gamers Extreme Publications, GX Media, GX Network (ad affiliate network), FiringSquad, PGL (Professional Gamers League), and Thresh brands. ### Partner/Creative Director/Co-Founder @ Design Reactor Jan 1997 – Jan 1999 | Berkeley, CA Co-founded Design Reactor as a web design and development boutique. Piitched and won business from Disney Channel, Toon Disney, Excite@Home (acquired by Comcast), and Killerapp (acquired by c|net). Managed a small team of designers and freelancers, and collaborated with client counterparties with our technology lead. Design Reactor later merged with Smart Media and split off into Rotten Tomatoes. Design Reactor helped design and develop Rotten Tomatoes (www.rottentomatoes.com) under Senh Duong’s founding at its early stages. ### Designer @ Novita Jan 1996 – Jan 1997 | Sunnyvale, CA Performed startup and generalist duties which included maintaining Novita's brand identity and marketing, as well as designing the UI of the Novita Mail product and internal Apps. ### Web Designer @ UC Berkeley, Haas Business School Jan 1995 – Jan 1996 | Berkeley, CA Worked with a team of developers and designers to build the Haas Business School website as well as a promotional multimedia CD to help inform prospective students enrolling into the school. ### Web Designer @ UC Berkeley, Haas Business School Jan 1994 – Jan 1996 | Berkeley, CA Designed and laid out the PATH (Partners for Advanced Technologies) website with the objective of explaining PATH projects to the public. ### Promotions/Webmaster @ California Music Channel (CMCTV) Jan 1994 – Jan 1996 | Oakland, CA Created the web operations and online promotions for CMC which only had a broadcast presence at the time.
