Sole engineer leading and implementing numerous cross-functional product features and bug fixes, and A/B feature-flagged experiments touching heavily trafficked and mission critical areas of the product – payments, teacher payment dashboards, search, projects, user profiles, logged in and logged out homepage variants, class pages, and our class browser
Revamped teacher payouts and teacher referrals infrastructure on the platform resulting in increased payouts and more meaningful financial insights of users teachers were referring to Skillshare
Led and contributed extensively to engineering-wide frontend and backend modernization efforts including designing GraphQL schemas, porting legacy APIs from PHP to GraphQL, migrating core parts of the codebase from Backbone to React/Typescript/Apollo/GraphQL/Material UI/Next.js, and converting or defining countless reusable React components utilized across the product, working closely with product/design teams on all of the above
Spearheaded multiple performance initiatives including a performance “tiger team” and successfully integrated Lighthouse CI into our deploy process, providing valuable reporting and insights into “Core Web Vitals” after every deploy, and moved the needle on setting up performance standards internally
Migrated and worked with design team to revamp Skillshare “Projects” and “Class” pages, porting to React/GraphQL/Apollo
Served as a mentor for teammates and new engineering hires, and conducted values/culture interviews for job candidates across the board
2018 — 2021
Integrated “Cloudflare Image Resize” and created an internal API allowing engineers to easily adapt images on the fly to a variety of layouts, and screen sizes, and significantly reduced image payload sizes being sent to users across a variety of highly trafficked pages
Led mission critical frontend work in Skillshare’s 2019 “Rebrand” initiative, revamping the product’s entire brand and design – color palette, assets, fonts, and iconography
Migrated and converted legacy “Search” page and user notifications panel to revamped, modernized experiences utilizing React/GraphQL/Apollo
Streamlined workflow for image processing, image previews, and cropping of user generated content for “Project” uploads
