# Jonathan Ellithorpe > Software Engineer at Databricks Location: San Francisco Bay Area, United States Profile: https://flows.cv/jonathanellithorpe I currently work at Databricks on caching and load balancing systems for stateful services. Prior to Databricks I was at Google where I worked on similar things and also led the Slicer team (https://lnkd.in/gRNkRAHr). Before joining industry I was at Stanford for my PhD working with my (amazing) advisor Mendel Rosenblum. My PhD was in low-latency graph databases, but I also worked on a medley of topics in systems including including open source networking platforms (including both hardware and software), distributed internet censorship evasion techniques, low-latency storage systems, and RISC-V based ML accelerators. ## Work Experience ### Software Engineer @ Databricks Jan 2023 – Present | Mountain View, California, United States Work in caching, load balancing, and promoting stateful systems :) ### Software Engineer @ Google Jan 2020 – Jan 2023 | Sunnyvale, California, United States - Worked on caching technologies. - Lead the Slicer team (https://lnkd.in/gRNkRAHr) ### Software Consultant @ OURS Technology Inc Jan 2018 – Jan 2019 | Santa Clara, California, United States - Advised hardware team on software issues related to accelerating neural networks on the hardware as well as booting and running Linux. - Modified RISC-V Linux kernel port and Spike RISC-V simulator to boot latest Fedora Linux distribution. - Designed and implemented software unit tests for processor MMU in C and assembly. - Researched size, performance, and accuracy of currently available convolutional neural networks. ### Software Engineering Intern @ Google Jan 2010 – Jan 2010 Developed open source prototype of MPLS router using NetFPGA-1G and commodity server hardware (https://tinyurl.com/2t6vmp2z). ### Hardware Engineering Intern @ Microsoft Jan 2009 – Jan 2009 | Beijing City, China - Worked on the development of a new research platform for experimenting with hardware and software optimizations and features in solid state disk storage technology for data centers. - Performed a full analysis of system performance, then proposed and implemented several hardware/software optimizations for improving data transfer operations to flash memory, boosting overall bandwidth by 10x. ## Education ### Doctor of Philosophy - PhD in Electrical Engineering Stanford University ### Stanford Ignite in Certificate Program in Innovation and Entrepreneurship Stanford University Graduate School of Business ### Chinese as a Foreign Language National Taiwan Normal University ### Electrical Engineering Stanford University ### Master of Science - MS in Computer Science University of California, Berkeley ### Bachelor of Science - BS in Electrical Engineering and Computer Science University of California, Berkeley ## Contact & Social - LinkedIn: https://linkedin.com/in/jonathan-ellithorpe --- Source: https://flows.cv/jonathanellithorpe JSON Resume: https://flows.cv/jonathanellithorpe/resume.json Last updated: 2026-03-29
