Managed a $3 million budget and oversaw infrastructure and engineering for Explore’s network of live cameras, streaming and distribution, as well as the design and development of web, mobile, and tvOS applications that expanded engagement from 10,000 to over 550,000 unique viewers per month on explore.org. Coordinated the onboarding of over 60, primarily non-profit organizations to extend their mission to a wider global audience.
Product management for a global network of live streaming cameras of nature and wildlife:
• Established both the product and engineering teams that developed core technologies, including streaming architecture, camera infrastructure, web and application development, to enable rapid scaling with greater stability.
• Pioneered new applications built on AWS MediaLive (and previously Wowza Streaming Engine) to manage the distribution and control of 200 streams.
• Used Agile process including user interviews, user testing, and research; rapid prototyping and design to product manage the user-centered software development of a dashboard to centralize, monitor and record all cameras/streams, with custom pan-tilt-zoom camera controls.
• Upgraded all camera systems to 1080p with audio integrations, while simplifying and improving remote power and wireless connections.
• Engineered transition from external vendors to in-house field operations, saving money and establishing direct control over all technology.
• Directed the move from a library of films and photographs documenting non-profit leaders around the world, to a global leader of live cameras of nature and wildlife.
• Coordinated the distribution of live and VOD content to media partners, including the launch of Facebook Live, Associated Press (AP), Reuters, ABC, CNN, BBC, National Geographic, Discovery, and Google Earth. Gained 475,000 YouTube subscribers across multiple channels with 100 million annual viewers, over 112 million viewing hours; and over 10 million Facebook followers.
