# Jonathan Smith > Director of Design · Figure Location: San Francisco, California, United States Profile: https://flows.cv/jonathansmith I design smart, clear interfaces that create impactful customer experiences and help companies achieve their business goals by seamlessly blending UX, brand, and interaction design into world-class products. My Approach: - Emphasis on the user journey, brand promise, and revenue generation. - Appreciation for technical and operational constraints. - Systematic design thinking for velocity and maintainability. - “Ego-less” collaboration with colleagues and a belief in always learning. ## Work Experience ### Director of Design @ Figure Jan 2026 – Present | San Francisco, CA ### Principal Product Designer @ Figure Jan 2024 – Jan 2026 | San Francisco, California, United States ### Co-Founder / Designer @ Choice Art Jan 2020 – Jan 2023 | San Francisco, California, United States I started this company with the co-founder of Plastiq. We wanted to explore the concept of “collaborative curation” in a consumer-facing product, and we launched three applications: Choice, OpenThrough, and Recca. View the case studies for these products at www.jonsmith.design. ### Staff Product Designer @ Plastiq Jan 2014 – Jan 2020 | San Francisco, CA I joined Plastiq in Boston as the second design hire, and later moved to San Francisco alongside the leadership team. During my six year tenure, we grew the company from 8 employees to over 150, and payment volume from $15 million per year to over $1.5 billion. Through this high-growth and hectic period, I led design efforts across the entire org in support of our product, brand, marketing, sales, and fundraising goals. I personally designed core product UI/UX, landing pages and marketing campaigns, sales collateral and assets, and investor/board decks. Though I appreciated the opportunity to manage our growing design team, I discovered a preference to stay hands on and "in the weeds" with design work, especially projects that prioritized both visual and interaction design. ### Designer @ HubSpot Jan 2013 – Jan 2014 | Cambridge, MA On HubSpot’s Creative & Design team, I helped bring the company’s vision and culture to life by conceptualizing and designing substantial web projects, revamping existing web pages, crafting user experiences, and designing graphics for various pieces of content. I redesigned HubSpot’s blog (which attracts more than 1.5m visitors monthly), inbound.com (the company’s annual conference website), What Is HubSpot page, and the HubSpot career pages. I also designed HubSpot’s annual State of Inbound Marketing Report. In addition to long-term web projects, I designed ebooks, web banners, promotional materials, and more. ### Design Lead @ Transparent Language Jan 2010 – Jan 2013 | Nashua NH As Design Lead at Transparent Language I was in charge of not only creating the day-to-day tactical marketing assets, but also setting the creative standards for the company across four satellite offices. The scope of responsibilities for my department ranges from UX, Product, and Web design, to Email development, Trade Show graphics, and Print design. As a hybrid designer, I not only design the initial prototype, but am also responsible for coding and implementation. Being versed in both design and development allows me to have a hand in the entire creative process, from concept and strategy to design and development. As a visual story teller, I work with my team to craft engaging narratives that communicate the personality of the brand and leave lasting impressions. ### Web Designer @ CBS Radio Jan 2007 – Jan 2010 While working at CBS, I was responsible for supporting the Sales and Promotions departments by supplying the required digital creative work needed for their initiatives. Typical work included managing the station websites, shooting and editing artist performances for the web, designing promotional marketing material, and developing digital advertising campaigns. Working with digital media for a large organization like CBS gave me great insight into web standards, brand strategy, and design trends. In addition to getting an opportunity to hone my craft, I also learned how to work with segment owners in order to satisfy the varied needs of clients in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment. ### Chapter Designer @ Pearson North America Jan 2007 – Jan 2007 Responsible for chapter design of the Algebra and Geometry CME books, retouching and manipulation of photos, assisting with spot illustrations, and running brainstorming meetings with editors. In addition to working in the math department, I also created illustrations for the Spanish and Biology textbooks. ## Education ### Bachelor of Fine Arts (BFA) in Graphic Design University of Massachusetts Lowell ### Central Catholic High School ## Contact & Social - LinkedIn: https://linkedin.com/in/jonsmith-design - Portfolio: https://www.jonsmith.design/ --- Source: https://flows.cv/jonathansmith JSON Resume: https://flows.cv/jonathansmith/resume.json Last updated: 2026-04-13
