I became a leader on the team that built and maintained TuneIn.com, which had approximately 35M monthly active users. I initially helped ship a complete isomorphic rewrite of the web application using Node servers and modular components in React with Redux. After shipping, I contributed to user-facing improvements, including a responsive UI/design refresh, optimizations to the web audio streaming experience, and ongoing work to decrease page load times via code splitting and image optimization (read my blog post about optimizing images for the web below, written initially for our designers). With regard to the codebase, we worked continuously to stay abreast of industry best practices; I personally contributed to the improvement of our client and server error-tracking system through the use of log monitoring (Mode, Sumologic) and JS error capture reporting (Sentry), worked closely with QA, maintained a high level of unit test coverage, and worked with DevOps to modernize our CI/CD pipeline using Docker and Kubernetes. Finally, I often lead my team’s weekly tactical meeting, wherein we discussed challenges we faced and made collective decisions about solutions and best practices for the team to follow. I remain proud of the work we did and the relationships we built across the company.
