# Jorge Rodriguez > Sr. Frontend Engineer @ Atlassian Location: San Francisco Bay Area, United States Profile: https://flows.cv/jorgerodriguez tl;dr Senior web dev with a 'Front End' forte (React.js, Redux, Backbone.js, jQuery, HTML/CSS) and experience working in Rails and Django. I'm happiest when solving problems and creating something that helps people, works well and looks sharp. I also love working with people who are passionate, intelligent, and challenge me to be at the top of my game. While not staring intently at a computer screen I enjoy such pursuits as a good book, a good hike, and more recently, a day sailing out on the bay. ## Work Experience ### Senior Frontend Engineer @ Atlassian Jan 2019 – Present | Los Angeles Metropolitan Area Building the interface for Atlassian's Bitbucket Cloud Enterprise product. ### Sr. Software Engineer, Front-End @ TuneIn Jan 2017 – Jan 2019 | San Francisco Bay Area I became a leader on the team that built and maintained TuneIn.com, which had approximately 35M monthly active users. I initially helped ship a complete isomorphic rewrite of the web application using Node servers and modular components in React with Redux. After shipping, I contributed to user-facing improvements, including a responsive UI/design refresh, optimizations to the web audio streaming experience, and ongoing work to decrease page load times via code splitting and image optimization (read my blog post about optimizing images for the web below, written initially for our designers). With regard to the codebase, we worked continuously to stay abreast of industry best practices; I personally contributed to the improvement of our client and server error-tracking system through the use of log monitoring (Mode, Sumologic) and JS error capture reporting (Sentry), worked closely with QA, maintained a high level of unit test coverage, and worked with DevOps to modernize our CI/CD pipeline using Docker and Kubernetes. Finally, I often lead my team’s weekly tactical meeting, wherein we discussed challenges we faced and made collective decisions about solutions and best practices for the team to follow. I remain proud of the work we did and the relationships we built across the company. ### Lead Front End Engineer @ One University Network, Inc. Jan 2015 – Jan 2016 | Oakland, CA As part of the founding engineering team, I was deeply involved in establishing both our software's foundational architecture and our company culture. As a lead engineer on a small team, I worked closely with other engineers, product owners and executive leadership to set goals and expectations for software development. I primarily focused on building the interface for an internal management system for student records, courses, and content. This interface allowed administrators to manage student applications and registration, as well as to create and review various types of course content; built using React.js, Redux, and Webpack with Django on the back end. ### Front End Engineer @ Zinio Jan 2014 – Jan 2015 Lead the effort to migrate Zinio's online reading experience from PDF and Adobe Flash to a responsive HTML5-based solution using Backbone.js and SVG/JPEG magazine content. I also created a desktop application for offline reading using NW.js, a combination of Node.js and Chromium that runs applications built on web technologies. Lastly, I worked with business development to support partners as they implemented the online and offline readers in a variety of applications. ### Web Developer @ _ Jan 2013 – Jan 2014 Gained web development experience by building many small-scale apps starting with Ruby and Ruby on Rails and later moving on to Javascript and Backbone.js. ### Tutor/Instructor @ Claremont High School AVID Program Jan 2013 – Jan 2014 | Claremont, California Tutored high school students in upper division math and physics. Raised students' grades an average of one full point, resulting in a higher college acceptance rate. ### English Language Instructor @ Topia Language Academy Jan 2012 – Jan 2013 Taught at an English language academy near Seoul, South Korea for a year. Coached an English debate team, advanced to semi-final round of a greater Seoul area competition. ### Tutor @ The Learning Ladder Jan 2011 – Jan 2012 | La Cañada, California Work with students one-on-one in various high school and college subjects as well as SAT preparation; specialized in physics, chemistry, calculus, and Spanish. ### Research Assistant, Helioseismology (Solar Physics) @ University of Southern California Jan 2008 – Jan 2011 Led a team of five student researchers. Performed statistical analyses on internal pressure wave data collected from NASA’s SOHO satellite. Discovered new behavior in the correlation between solar pressure wave frequency and solar activity. Paper published in the proceedings of the 273rd International Astronomical Union. Presented the work at UC Berkeley and CalTech. ### Research Assistant, Biophysics @ Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute Jan 2010 – Jan 2010 | Troy, New York Ran simulations of the interaction between NaCl in solution with a DPPC lipid bilayer cell membrane. Demonstrated a positively charged bilayer effect with high Na+ survival times and bilayer saturation. First author for publication in "Interdisciplinary Sciences, Computational Life Sciences", Dec. 2011. Self taught Bash scripting to submit heavy number-crunching jobs to supercomputing cluster. ## Education ### B.S. in Physics, Jazz Studies Minor University of Southern California ## Contact & Social - LinkedIn: https://linkedin.com/in/jorgerro - Website: http://www.jorgerafaelrodriguez.com - Website: https://github.com/jorgerro --- Source: https://flows.cv/jorgerodriguez JSON Resume: https://flows.cv/jorgerodriguez/resume.json Last updated: 2026-04-01
