# Josyn Herce > Product Designer Location: Los Altos, California, United States Profile: https://flows.cv/josyn I design systems and experiences that help people make sense of complexity and navigate constraints, tradeoffs, and situations where there are no easy answers. I’m drawn to reducing unnecessary friction, while recognizing that the right kind of friction can encourage more deliberate and responsible choices. I began working in UX during its formative years, when teams were still learning as they went. That environment required careful judgment, thoughtful collaboration, and sustained attention to real working conditions. As a design manager, I stayed close to the work while supporting designers as they developed their craft. Highlights include leading the redesign of a property management dashboard that later became an industry reference, and introducing live style guides that improved consistency and alignment between design and engineering. The current moment in design feels familiar. As tools and workflows evolve with AI, many assumptions are being revisited. I see value in engaging with this uncertainty conscientiously, especially when designing systems that influence real decisions and behaviors. Outside of work, I enjoy solving puzzlers, practicing languages, relearning the piano, and exploring chess, interests that keep me engaged with patterns, strategy, and thinking about the bigger picture. ## Work Experience ### Product Designer (Independent) @ Unknown Jan 2025 – Present | Los Altos, California, United States I help teams clarify product direction, simplify complex workflows, and create interfaces that feel intuitive. My work spans UX, interaction design, and design systems, with an emphasis on bridging communication across product, engineering, and design. I partner with clients who value clear reasoning, thoughtful problem solving, and a collaborative approach to building better experiences. ### Design Manager @ On-Site.com Jan 2014 – Jan 2017 | Campbell, California, United States As design manager at On-Site, I helped lead aspiring designers in the development of an online leasing platform for housing providers and renters. Through a strength-based management style, I mentored junior designers while fostering team cohesion through weekly design team meetings with rotating leadership roles. One notable project I led was the revamp of the property management landing page, resulting in a smart, customizable dashboard that improved the efficiency of managing the health of properties. The redesign was recognized by the company's CTO and received positive feedback from sales and clients at an annual user retreat, where it won a "what to build next" contest. ### Senior User Experience and Interface Designer @ On-Site.com Jan 2011 – Jan 2014 | Campbell, California, United States In this role I was responsible for enhancing the elegance and user-friendliness of the company's cloud-based products. I worked with cross-functional teams including engineers, product managers, executives, and clients to deliver design solutions. I also provided design support to the marketing team. Later, I collaborated with the head of design to revamp the company's marketing website and branding, as well as build a strong product design team that focused on user needs. Our efforts elevated the company's design presence, established new standards in the apartment management industry, and boosted client engagement and sales. Additionally, I helped create a responsive UI library and established a live style guide to make it easier for developers to implement. ### User Experience Designer @ AdNectar Jan 2010 – Jan 2011 | Palo Alto, California, United States As the principal user experience designer at AdNectar, I collaborated with the co-founders, product leads, engineers, and marketing team to enhance the usability and effectiveness of the company's virtual gifting apps and back-end tracking systems. I conducted UX reviews, rapid prototyping, and user testing to improve the platform's functionality. I also contributed to the success of the company's overhauled Facebook gifting app (back in the days when virtual gifting was a thing!), which resulted in increased user engagement thanks to the UX improvements I implemented. ### Visual and Interaction Designer @ GlobalEnglish Corporation Jan 2006 – Jan 2009 | Brisbane, California, United States As a visual and interaction designer for GlobalEnglish, I collaborated with other designers, product managers, engineers, and the marketing team to enhance the visual and interactive elements of the company’s online English learning platform. I played a key role in improving the learner dashboard interface, as well as contributing to new products such as an English learning community app and vocabulary app. I gained technical skills in HTML, CSS, and programming logic, bridging the gap between designers and developers, and improving collaboration and efficiency in releasing engaging products. Additionally, I provided design support for the marketing and product teams by creating a promotional video, reviewing the English assessment product, and conducting workshops on front-end coding and design principles. ### Graphic and Web Designer @ Unknown Jan 1998 – Jan 2006 As a freelance designer, I offered a wide range of design services, including creative direction, brand identity design, website design and development, front-end coding, Flash animations, and presentation slides. I worked with a diverse group of clients, including large organizations like Stanford Graduate School of Business, University of Florida, and Young Presidents Organization, as well as startups, nonprofits, and individuals. ## Education ### Biochemistry in Human Development California State University - East Bay ## Contact & Social - LinkedIn: https://linkedin.com/in/josyn - Portfolio: https://www.josyn.com --- Source: https://flows.cv/josyn JSON Resume: https://flows.cv/josyn/resume.json Last updated: 2026-04-13
