# Julian Bergado > EECS @ Berkeley | Professional Dev. Chair @ ANova | IT Helpdesk | PREP ‘24 Location: San Francisco Bay Area, United States Profile: https://flows.cv/julianbergado Technology is about people. And right now, people including top leaders and researchers agree "Mitigating the risk of extinction from AI should be a global priority alongside other societal-scale risks such as pandemics and nuclear war." (https://www.safe.ai/work/statement-on-ai-risk) While exploring my interests as a creative problem-solver, I currently aspire to apply my unique skills to solving existential threats, such as by spearheading the systems contributed to the alignment problem in AI. If you have the same worries, let's act now and take the next steps together! I am grateful to have been trained by UC Berkeley's Pre-Engineering Program (PREP) where we applied a 3-week Design Sprint and partnered with 4 engineering undergraduates to ideate, design, and assemble a self-sorting garbage can presented in a 5-minute pitch to 11 industry-leading companies (Intuit, Boeing, PG&E, etc.). This, among other experiences, brings me here today. Let's grow new ways to live in this expanding era of technology, a seed planted by the youth of today. ## Work Experience ### Student Technology Consultant @ UC Berkeley Student Technology Services Jan 2025 – Present | Berkeley, California, United States • Diagnose connectivity and OS failures at the protocol level using CLI tools (ipconfig, netsh, grep), restoring network access for students by manually resetting corrupted TCP/IP stacks and DHCP leases. • Isolate hardware vs. software faults by live-booting Ubuntu Linux to verify NIC functionality, preventing unnecessary device replacements by definitively ruling out OS-level driver corruption. • Escalate validated root-cause findings (generating packet capture and wireless diagnostic logs) to engineering teams, reducing ticket resolution time and earning 1 of 3 merit-based awards for technical accuracy. ### Hyperspectral Camera Engineer @ SolarSURFER Development Crew Jan 2024 – Present | Berkeley, California, United States • Reviewing electronic components under a budget of $125,000 for a space-bound hyperspectral imaging array intended for global image reconstruction and data extrapolation on a CubeSat satellite. • Collaborating with 50+ cross-campus undergraduates (John Hopkins, UMD, Olin) to ensure camera is compatible with high-bandwidth communication systems in the X-band regime to support continuous, accurate data flow. ### Synthetic Biology Researcher (“Betta Fetta” Team) @ iGEM at Berkeley Jan 2024 – Jan 2024 | Berkeley, California, United States • Researched in teams the bacteria L. lactis 6+ hours per week in wet lab research at Donner Laboratory, including critical discussion and experiment design with Prof. Chris Anderson and 9 undergraduate teammates • Applied synthetic biology software Benchling to design 12 primers and 3 bacterial DNA assemblies before approved storage. • Conducted in-lab study and spreadsheet matrix analysis for a novel buffer solution which increases genetic expression of desired protein GFP by 150% to establish and validate results found by literature search for fungal media work. ### Student Product Design Engineer (Maker Design Studio Expo 2024) @ UC Berkeley Pre-Engineering Program Jan 2024 – Jan 2024 | Berkeley, California, United States • Collaborated with 4 Berkeley Engineering PREP Scholars to design a self-sorting garbage can prototype powered by Arduino sensors and 3D modeling under the Design Sprint model limited to 3 weeks and $50 in budget; specialized in computer-aided design of the structure prior to 3D printing and laser cutting of the product. • Employed problem-solving concepts: problem identification, stakeholder-focused design, networking, sketching, prototyping, testing, and collecting both stakeholder and industry professional feedback across 15+ workshops. • Communicated prototype onstage to an audience of 100+ (engineering undergraduates, engineering faculty, and professionals from 11 cross-industry companies); answered 3 minutes of Q&A from tech industry judges, specializing in explaining product design and hardware in addition to a period of networking and 1-on-1 feedback. ## Education ### Bachelor of Science - BS in Bioengineering and Biomedical Engineering UC Berkeley College of Engineering ### College of San Mateo ### High School Diploma Westmoor High School ## Contact & Social - LinkedIn: https://linkedin.com/in/julianjanbergado --- Source: https://flows.cv/julianbergado JSON Resume: https://flows.cv/julianbergado/resume.json Last updated: 2026-04-13
