# Kaixin Chen > Engineer Location: San Francisco Bay Area, United States Profile: https://flows.cv/kaixin ## Work Experience ### Software Engineer @ WeRide Jan 2024 – Present ### EDG Engineer @ MathWorks Jan 2023 – Jan 2024 | Natick, Massachusetts, United States ### Software Engineer Intern @ Meta Jan 2022 – Jan 2022 | Burlingame, California, United States • Built a detector that detects the 3D positions of facial landmarks on a 3D scan of a real person. • Using R3DS Wrap and the 3D facial landmark detector, individually developed a fully automatic pipeline registering temporal sequences of 3D scans of a person to a mesh template. • Independently designed a fully automatic pipeline that augment temporal sequences of scans using Open3D, putting glasses on 3D scans of a person as if the person is wearing the glasses. The augmented sequence is also temporally smoothed for reduction of jittering. • Built a quantitative evaluation method for the augmentation pipeline, which evaluates temporal jittering of the glasses and verifies the validity of the wearing styles. ### Undergraduate Research Assistant (Unpaid) @ University of California, Los Angeles Jan 2020 – Jan 2021 | Los Angeles, California, United States • Implemented a computational fluid dynamic (CFD) simulator that can simulate liquid behavior in 3D under the effects of viscosity, pressure, gravity, and interaction with a container. • Sought applications of a biphasic smoothed particle hydrodynamics solver built using C++. For example, used the solver to simulate gram-negative bacteria under osmotic shock ### Engineering Intern @ General Motors Jan 2019 – Jan 2019 | Shanghai, China • Participated in the design process of an axial flux motor prototype for electric vehicle propulsion. • Developed a magnet cutting pattern that can reduce the eddy current loss in power ferrites using Ansys Maxwell 3D. • Identified the iron loss in each of the motor components by performing simulations with Ansys Maxwell 3D. • Designed a set of flanges and supports using NX CAD to fit the motor prototype on a dyno, which allows installation of torque sensors at different measuring ranges without disassembling the dyno. • Constructed 2D drawings and set manufacturing tolerances for machined components in the motor. ### Student Engineer @ UC Irvine, Formula SAE (a Student-designed Racecar Competition) Team Jan 2018 – Jan 2019 | Irvine, California, United States • Designed two sets of cost effective, high factor of safety and light-weight push rod suspension rockers using SolidWorks. • Evaluated different possible structures for the rocker and optimized the parts by solving closed-form expressions of a simplified model and simulating using SolidWorks FEA. • Participated in the manufacturing and testing process of the steering and suspension system. • Designed and manufactured cooling system support, rear aerodynamic kit support and the racecar’s firewall. ### Student Engineer @ UC Irvine, Calplug Research Center Jan 2018 – Jan 2019 | Irvine, California, United States • Participated in developing a printed circuit board which was designed to calculate the power consumed by some smart home devices. • Verified PCB design by populating and testing the prototypes. • Calibrated the product by analyzing data using MATLAB. ### Engineering Intern @ Shanghai Huizhong Automotive Manufacturing Co., Ltd. Jan 2017 – Jan 2017 | Shanghai, China • Partook in quality control processes for suspension and brake components. • Tracked experiment progress, and managed experiment data using Excel. ## Education ### Master of Science - MS in Mechanical Engineering Stanford University ### Bachelor of Science - BS in Mechanical Engineering UCLA ## Contact & Social - LinkedIn: https://linkedin.com/in/kaixin-chen-898460221 - GitHub: https://github.com/KaiXin-Chen --- Source: https://flows.cv/kaixin JSON Resume: https://flows.cv/kaixin/resume.json Last updated: 2026-04-11
