As a Cohort Lead for the CDSS Welcome Program, I support the academic and professional growth of incoming data science and computing students through mentorship, program facilitation, and data-driven decision-making. This role blends communication, leadership, and data skills to enhance student success and belonging within a highly technical college environment.
Key Responsibilities:
• Peer Mentorship: Provided structured mentorship to cohorts of 35–40 incoming students, offering guidance on navigating UC Berkeley’s academic environment, especially within data science and computing disciplines.
• Leadership & Coordination: Acted as the primary liaison for peer mentors and mentees; coordinated training, tracked engagement data, and ensured timely submissions of program deliverables.
• Program Design & Facilitation: Led workshops on time management, academic success, and self-care; co-developed content to support student development in high-rigor STEM fields.
• Event & Community Building: Designed and implemented community-building events (e.g., welcome mixers, retreats) to promote collaboration and inclusion within technical disciplines.
• Data Collection & Analysis: Collected participant data and feedback to inform continuous program improvement. Synthesized findings into actionable insights to refine programming strategy.
• Professional Communication: Maintained clear, consistent communication with supervisors and peers; modeled empathy and professionalism in all interactions.
