Our goal is to use a large dataset of bird images (iNaturalist dataset) to create an SSD (single-shot detection) multi-box detector using TensorFlow. After the model has been successfully created, trained, and validated, we will use the model to identify individual bird species and estimate species populations captured using a camera attached to a single board computer like an Nvidia Jetson or Google coral.

My Data+ project is a ten-week summer research experience exploring new data-driven approaches to interdisciplinary challenges. I built tools to analyze and visualize geospatial and remote sensing data arising from the Alligator River National Wildlife Refuge (ARNWR). I also produced interactive maps of physical characteristics that were tailored to specific refuge management professionals and built classifiers for vegetation detection in LandSat imagery.
