# Kedron Abbott > Sr. Software Engineer at Hashicorp Location: San Antonio, Texas, United States Profile: https://flows.cv/kedron My philosophy is to always think of those that come after me. As a software engineer, I write expressive code that’s readable, extensible, and backed by solid tests and documentation. As a community leader, I participate in my job’s ERG planning committee, I’ve been a speaker at AfroTech 2021, I help organize social and professional events for my local tech community, and I mentor junior engineers. As a person, I strive for excellence in all that I do and make sure I’m lifting people up along the way. I’m passionate about opening up opportunity for underserved communities, and am excited to contribute to a team that cares about what they’re building. ## Work Experience ### Senior Software Engineer @ HashiCorp Jan 2024 – Present | San Antonio, Texas Metropolitan Area - Instrumented observability using DataDog’s Go SDK by creating an internal metrics library to allow our team to have visibility on how the app is running, including dashboards that monitor SLOs such as request success rate, latency, and availability, targeting 99.9% uptime. - Hosted and mentored our team’s summer intern who completed a library that makes gathering product diagnostics much easier. - Created unified testing utilities with reusable structures to streamline test creation, reduce duplication, and enhance test readability. - Centralized company schema registry from multiple repos into one for gathering usage data across products, which includes code generation for new schemas and automatic validations to ensure doing the right thing is easy and there is only a single source-of-truth. - Lead the planning and implementation of our metrics and license validation service to seamlessly integrate into IBM’s Passport Advantage Online (a system that allows users to download software and manage entitlements) which enables IBM to start billing customers based on HashiCorp product usage. - Collaborated with all Product Lines to implement the new version of our metrics collection and exporter libraries, and Data Eng to ingest the new incoming data. - Organized Brain Bites, a 30-min once-a-month lightning talk series covering both technical and non-technical topics ranging from AI and dependency management to the science of learning and combating imposter syndrome. The series attracted internal international attention and now counts for earning official IBM YourLearning Points. ### Software Engineer II @ Chan Zuckerberg Initiative Jan 2021 – Jan 2023 - Designed and built URL Guard, a gem used to protect users from malicious links. After integrating it into the Summit Learning Platform, it scans through roughly 15k urls per month, allowing users to navigate to safe links as usual, and stops them with a warning page for links marked unsafe. - Designed a system to initiate, orchestrate, and audit deletions across microservices and setup the infrastructure using Terraform. - Worked cross-functionally with Legal, Trust, and Support to update and rollout a new Terms Of Service that all users need to accept before being able to utilize the Learning Platform. - Mentored 15 undergrad students at O4U (https://www.outforundergrad.org/) as a CZI Engineer Rep. Between that, manning the table, and hosting 1:1 Q/A sessions with students, we exceeded our goals by engaging with 80% of the conference, creating 110 warm leads, and receiving 37 applications for our 2023 university recruiting season. ### Software Engineer @ Chan Zuckerberg Initiative Jan 2020 – Jan 2021 | Redwood City, California, United States - Improved RBAC (Role Based Access Control) Policies by converting over 200 files to use reorderable checks which resulted in easier to understand, more maintainable code, as well as ample examples for other engineers. - Hosted an hour-long workshop around what RBAC Policies are, how they're used throughout the codebase, and included breakout rooms for engineers to practice building strong policies with example scenarios which resulted in increased team confidence to properly secure the data they're working with. - Revamped deletions process by creating an internal gem that can be connected to any Postgres schema and configured to handle multiple deletion strategies (ex: expunge, nullify, update, etc) + before/after hooks, auditing over 200 different tables, and collaborating with team leads to ensure deletions is configured correctly. Following this work, I was able to successfully delete data from 41 schools, and identified ~100M records for deletions. -Mentored a summer intern that joined our team through code pairs and 1:1s where I discussed work/life/career with him. -Panalist speaker at AfroTech 2021 RE: Shaping the future of DEI in Tech & Philanthropy. ### Talent Fellow @ Contrary Jan 2020 – Jan 2022 Selected to be a 2020 Contrary Talent Fellow.
