# Kenny Jeffris > Sr. Software Engineer at Bio-Techne Location: San Jose, California, United States Profile: https://flows.cv/kennyjeffris ## Work Experience ### Senior Software Engineer @ ProteinSimple, a Bio-Techne brand Jan 2025 – Present | San Jose, California, United States ### Software Engineer @ Bio-Techne Jan 2023 – Present ### Senior Systems Engineer @ ProteinSimple Jan 2022 – Jan 2023 | San Jose, California, United States ### System Engineer @ ProteinSimple Jan 2018 – Jan 2023 | San Jose, California Systems Engineer specializing in automation/control systems and in-house software tool development. ### Private Contractor @ ProteinSimple Jan 2017 – Jan 2018 | Berkeley, CA I developed a python application that formats raw data (csv file) output by the Simple Plex Image from ProteinSimple, and exports an excel worksheet with summary tabs and plots (https://github.com/kennyjeffris/Simple-Plex-Analyzer). Summary tabs are easy to read and use smart highlighting to indicate values that meet or exceed a given threshold of interest. Plots are created using available data and use a five coefficient polynomial fit to form an easy-to-read curve. I also developed features for Scout, the Single-Cell Western image analysis tool. Written in Matlab, this tool analyzes data from Milo, and is used for identifying protein expression on a single-cell basis with insights into population heterogeneity. ### Hardware Engineering Intern @ ProteinSimple Jan 2017 – Jan 2017 | San Jose, CA As an intern, I developed new tools and improvements for the GUI based image-analysis software for Scout, which analyzes scanned Milo Single Cell Western chips probed with fluorescent antibodies. Useful tools include a lasso-style selection of "lanes" on the chip, an inspection state that allows users to cycle through a selection of "lanes" to compare protein expression, and a robust auto-register capable of detecting image resolution even with incorrect cropping, and several graphical interfaces for changing user settings and saving default properties. I also increased the speed and efficiency of some processes by several orders of magnitude by utilizing matrix operations and eliminating redundant or non-sensical code. My other primary responsibilities were in hardware engineering. I helped debug a board with a dark-current issue by carefully removing or replacing surface mount components and IC's. I also assembled boards and cables to be used in functional prototypes of new products. I had the opportunity to layout and edit new PCB's for use in new products. Using Eagle Cad, I edited or designed new ROHS compliant PCB's with 15 to 500 components. These boards are being used in final assemblies. ### Undergraduate Research Assistant @ Berkeley Imaging Systems Laboratory Jan 2016 – Jan 2018 | University of California, Berkeley I assisted a graduate student with research involving MPI (Magnetic Particle Imaging) and mammalian lung perfusion. The main project I worked on was to develop a clinically relevant pulmonary embolism model in Fischer rats to test the efficacy of Magnetic Particle Imaging as a viable diagnostic tool. Throughout our research, I have utilized Magnetic Particle Imaging to track and determine the viability of in-vivo therapeutic stem cells, designed and 3-D printed animal beds and isoflurane delivery nosecones for use in custom Magnetic Particle Imaging Scanners, and wrote a paper submitted to PMB on January 26, 2017 titled "First In Vivo Magnetic Particle Imaging of Lung Perfusion in Rats" (I am second author). I have worked on other projects involving MPI and have applied coding, CAD, and tissue culture skills throughout the process. ### House Co-Manager @ Tellefsen Hall Assn Jan 2017 – Jan 2018 | Berkeley, California Co-manager of Tellefsen Hall, the Home of the Cal Band. As manager, I was responsible for managing house finances and keeping to a strict budget. I hosted monthly meetings to discuss house events and mediated issues among residents. ### Student Research Assistant @ Berkeley Lab Jan 2015 – Jan 2017 | Berkeley, CA I worked with a postdoc in the Srinivasan Group at Berkeley Lab assisting with stress/strain tests of electro-chemical car battery materials under simulated test environments. • Conducted low temperature stress/strain experiments of custom automotive battery binding materials to test their efficacy in simulated weather environments. • Pioneered a procedure to reduce the number of people required for a preexisting experiment while increasing productivity and safety. ### Campus Ambassador @ Visitor and Parent Services Jan 2015 – Jan 2016 | University of California, Berkeley Campus ambassadors represent and advocate for UC Berkeley to a wide range of campus guests as they share the history and culture of the campus, as well as their experiences as a Berkeley student. ### Summer Biomedical Research Intern @ UCSF Fresno Jan 2013 – Jan 2013 | Cancer Biology Research Laboratory at the California State University, Fresno I worked as an assistant in the Cancer Biology Research Laboratory at the California State University, Fresno under the supervision of Dr. Jason Bush and his graduate students. Here I aided the graduate students with their research by performing tissue culture in a sterile hood with numerous breast and pancreatic cancer cell lines. I also conducted my own research experiment using the breast cancer cell lines MDA-MB-231 and MCF-7, along with the chemotherapeutic drug Tamoxifen and the bisphosphonate Zoledronic Acid. The UCSF Fresno Summer Biomedical Internship Program was established in 1988 to provide a quality biomedical research experience for high school students—the first of its kind in the Central San Joaquin Valley. The program matches high school students, in the summer between their junior and senior year of high school, with faculty members who have or are developing a research project. In the last twenty-seven years, over two hundred students have participated in the SBI program and many of them are finishing their medical residencies, are working in the biomedicine or biotechnical industries, or are in medical school or doctorate programs at various universities. ## Education ### Bachelor's degree in Bioengineering University of California, Berkeley ### Yosemite High School ## Contact & Social - LinkedIn: https://linkedin.com/in/kenny-jeffris --- Source: https://flows.cv/kennyjeffris JSON Resume: https://flows.cv/kennyjeffris/resume.json Last updated: 2026-04-10
