# Kevin Hou > Building AI Infrastructure Location: San Francisco Bay Area, United States Profile: https://flows.cv/kevinhou Classically trained theorist with experience building mathematical models and writing fast code. ## Work Experience ### Senior Software Engineer @ Google Jan 2024 – Present | Sunnyvale, California, United States Network Infrastructure ### Software Engineer @ Google Jan 2022 – Jan 2024 | Sunnyvale, California, United States ### Software Engineer - Scientific Computing @ Emerald Cloud Lab Jan 2020 – Jan 2022 | San Francisco Bay Area I built cloud-based distributed systems and data-driven optimization tools for the wet lab. Check out my work on the AWS startups blog! - Built a cloud-based job scheduling system using AWS Services (Kinesis, Dynamo, Fargate) which has been adopted for a range of internal/external uses, including unit testing, documentation building, RNA folding simulations, and user data analysis. - Developed 10+ interactive data analysis apps (Mathematica) including peak-picking for NMR, data clustering for flow cytometry, and image processing for dynamic foam analysis. - Developed unit testing system for interactive Mathematica apps which emulates UI interactions (button presses, sliders, etc.), reducing the need for human-driven QA and saving ~20 person-hours/week. ### PhD Student @ Stanford University Jan 2016 – Jan 2020 | Stanford, CA I built models to describe polymer electrolytes, and wrote code which applies these models for computational materials design. - Developed a novel self-consistent field theory (SCFT) for predicting the structure and properties of polymer electrolytes for Li-ion batteries. - Implemented a high-performance convex optimization package in Fortran 95/C++ (9 months, ~2500 lines) which uses the aforementioned SCFT to efficiently screen candidate materials for desirable properties. - Further improved optimization package by designing spectral algorithm which achieves up to 30x speedup by exploiting symmetry in SCFT equations. ### Quantitative Analyst @ JPMorgan Chase & Co. Jan 2019 – Jan 2019 | Greater New York City Area Applied quantitative/programming skills in a fast-paced corporate environment. - Treasury/Chief Investment Office: Portfolio Strategy - Built stochastic model which generates a distribution of future macroeconomic paths (i.e. time evolution of unemployment, inflation, etc.), conditionally on historical economic data. - Cleaned and compiled macroeconomic data, used to construct regressions of interest rates on macroeconomic variables. ### Process R&D Engineering Intern @ Micron Technology Jan 2014 – Jan 2014 | Boise, Idaho Area Trying out process engineering. - Designed experiments to isolate source of contamination in NAND fabrication process. - Coordinated chemical acquisition, equipment usage, and technician schedules to conduct experimentation. ## Education ### Doctor of Philosophy - PhD in Chemical Engineering Stanford University Jan 2015 – Jan 2020 ### Master of Science - MS in Chemical Engineering Stanford University Jan 2015 – Jan 2018 ### Bachelor of Science - BS in Chemical Engineering University of California, Berkeley Jan 2011 – Jan 2015 ## Contact & Social - LinkedIn: https://linkedin.com/in/kevinjiayuhou --- Source: https://flows.cv/kevinhou JSON Resume: https://flows.cv/kevinhou/resume.json Last updated: 2026-03-23
