# Kevin L. > Software Developer Location: San Francisco Bay Area, United States Profile: https://flows.cv/kevinl7 How I got started with software development...simply put, I worked with the software engineering team in my first job out of college where we were designing products to identify and track malicious drones. Everything was designed with the end user in mind and inspired me to make a pivot in my career. Since then, I've challenged myself to learn as many technologies relevant to building a great user experience: Ruby / Rails, JavaScript, React / Redux, PostgreSQL, CSS, HTML, MongoDB, Express, and Node. Also expanding my experience with scalability, concurrency, API design, data modeling, and distributed systems fundamentals. My most recent full stack app is a ready-to-use Netflix clone featuring all things food using React, Rails, AWS. It allows you to filter videos seeded from Youtube and watch at a click of a button. If you decide a video is worth watching later, it can also marked and saved to your own My List feature. I also created an original game based on a common phrase used amongst my close circle of friends. The phrase is a nod to a psychological phenomenon, while the game features humorous theme. The game was built using Javascript and HTML and highlights my skills with OOP. Aside from developing apps, what keeps me up till the early morning hours is hanging out with my hometown buddies where we spend hours coming up with ridiculous ideas for the next big thing. ## Work Experience ### Software Engineer @ Lively, Inc. Jan 2019 – Jan 2023 | New York, New York, United States - Implemented SFTP file processing for daily account creation and investment record keeping to launch new brokerage offering with Charles Schwab - Led backend development of webhook and SFTP-based integration with an external vendor to enable users to pull in their health claims for reimbursement, improving ease and utilization by 30% as measured by customer effort score - Designed and implemented real time integration with web service API and mobile app to ingest product barcodes in store to verify product eligibility - Implemented claim reimbursement file processing using aws s3 file storage - Overhauled class component based pages to react hooks for new FSA benefit offering ### Lead Mechanical Engineer @ Airspace Systems Inc. Jan 2019 – Jan 2019 - Led the Quality Assurance team in planning, designing, and executing 800+ hours of tests across multiple departments in preparation for demonstrating our core products at military competitions. ### Mechanical Engineer @ Airspace Systems Inc. Jan 2017 – Jan 2019 - Prototyped anti-drone defense system featured on TechCrunch. Brainstormed, modeled, and 3D printed most viable solutions. Tested and analyzed failure points. Improved aerial mitigation success rates - Led design and manufacturing efforts for flagship drone defense products - Weight distribution of components and subsystems for better flight maneuverability. Integration and protection of onboard sensors - Extensive use of SolidWorks and FDM 3D printing. Pushed limits of 3D printing for prototyping aerial payload capacity, withstanding explosive drone mitigation techniques, and supporting shock loading - Expanded interest in computer science by writing code for drone recognition and machine learning software ### Mechanical Engineer Intern @ Airspace Systems Inc. Jan 2015 – Jan 2017 - Designed subcomponents for drone interdiction system. Accelerated prototype design cycle times - Streamlined high volume manufacturing of 3D printed parts. Primary liaison for 3D printing companies such as Fictiv - Generated living documents for each prototype version: bill of materials, QC protocol, power/weight budget ### Local Distribution Planning Intern @ Southern California Edison (SCE) Jan 2014 – Jan 2015 | Santa Monica, Los Angeles - Improved the efficiency of completing projects for the planning department by undertaking on-site assessment of company equipment required for initializing projects - Worked directly with clients in setting design expectations using company rules and policies and to build customer relationships - Ensured structural integrity of electrical distribution poles to prevent possible power outages and fatal accidents ## Education ### Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical Engineering UCLA ### Software Development App Academy ## Contact & Social - LinkedIn: https://linkedin.com/in/kevin-l-9a540143 --- Source: https://flows.cv/kevinl7 JSON Resume: https://flows.cv/kevinl7/resume.json Last updated: 2026-03-29
