# Kevin Yang > Software Engineer at Confido Location: Cupertino, California, United States Profile: https://flows.cv/kevinyang2 Hi! I am currently enjoying the sunshine as a software engineer at Google LA. I recently graduated from UC San Diego as a computer science student and recipient of the full, merit-based Jacob’s Engineering Scholarship. On top of computer science, I also love outdoor activities/playing sports such as basketball and football and am a huge Indiana and Bay Area sports fan! ## Work Experience ### Founding Software Engineer @ Confido Jan 2024 – Present | New York, United States ### Software Engineer Intern @ PromptLoop Jan 2023 – Jan 2023 | San Francisco, California, United States ● Designed and launched the List API function to fetch fact-based, internet-sourced lists that are seamlessly showcased on Excel or Google Sheets. ● Constructed the account, team overview, settings, and sign-in webpages, using Next.js and Typescript. ● Fine-tuned and validated a BERT base model for our largest client, achieving 80% accuracy on their open ended tagging questions. ### Software Engineer @ Google Jan 2021 – Jan 2022 | Los Angeles, California, United States ● Provisioned training data for a ML model by aggregating 11M+ data points from 11 sources, leading to estimates that our recommendations could reduce incidents, bugs, and postmortems by ~10-20%. ● Conceptualized and built the integration test infrastructure for Google’s ads benchmarking product to increase confidence in test coverage upon code updates. ● Created a tool to catch 10K+ misconfigurations on Google’s cluster management system. ### Software Engineer Intern @ Google Jan 2020 – Jan 2020 | Los Angeles, California, United States ● Designed and developed a Beam pipeline to generate threshold values for alerting on data anomalies for the Datascope data monitoring service. ● Reduced the number of noisy alerts by 90% to increase the significance of each alert that is sent out. ● Increased coverage of data sources by 79% to incorporate support for additional clients. ### Research Assistant @ ADA Lab (Professor Arun Kumar) Jan 2018 – Jan 2020 | San Diego, California, United States ● Integrated the SortingHat Data Preparation project with Tensorflow Data Validation to improve TFDV’s feature type inference system. ● Revised paper and developed tutorial video for Project SpeakQL to present at SIGMOD 2019. ● Led and conducted several user studies for the SpeakQL interface to gather relevant data regarding the performance of the interface. ### Software Engineering Intern @ Google Jan 2019 – Jan 2019 | Mountain View, California ● Constructed a Flume pipeline to process relevant data from over 60 million users and 4 data sources to generate emails for the “follow” feature on the Business Profile page. ● Integrated remote services with the pipeline to efficiently retrieve merchant data and automate the entire email sending process. ● Designed and implemented a dynamic email template that will best engage users with merchant posts. ### Software Engineering Intern @ Facebook Jan 2018 – Jan 2018 | Menlo Park ● Integrated data partitioning layer with Instagram’s Cassandra database to direct over 220 million queries per second to the correspondingly partitioned clusters. ● Lessened the amount of hardware needed in the FB data centers by placing and migrating data across the centers based on locality. ● Reduced the need for overseas queries to improve query latency performance and support Instagram’s worldwide expansion. ### Computer Science Tutor @ UCSD CSE Department Jan 2017 – Jan 2018 | La Jolla ● Clarified key concepts of Object-Oriented Programming, such as encapsulation and inheritance. ● Analyzed students’ code to identify and explain problems in their projects. ● Graded student projects/exams and offered constructive feedback for future improvement. ### Software Engineering Intern @ L3 Technologies Jan 2017 – Jan 2017 | Greater San Diego Area ● Implemented functionalities to the original InControl application, using Java, to simplify satellite-command analysis for users. ● Incorporated user interface features to diversify the displays of satellite data and clarify movement across web pages. ● Adapted the InControl application into a web application using React.js and Bootstrap. ### Research Assistant @ Knight Laboratories Jan 2016 – Jan 2016 | La Jolla, California • Studied and understood the code in the American Gut Project repository to fix issues in the code • Began self-study of Python to help work on the project • Started by Professor Rob Knight, the American Gut Project is the largest crowdsourced project in U.S., shedding light on connections between human microbiome and health. ### Engineering Intern @ AISense Inc.
