# Kian Rafian > Mechanical Engineering at UC Berkeley Location: Berkeley, California, United States Profile: https://flows.cv/kianrafian I'm interested in renewable energy, electric automotive, and carbon sequestration technologies. Utilizing hands-on experience fixing farm equipment growing up, as well as current experience on UC Berkeley's Solar Vehicle and Bike Building teams, I am experienced in leading and participating in iterative MechE/EE engineering projects. Passionate about the environment and sustainability with a focus in energy. ## Work Experience ### Battery Subteam Advisor @ UC Berkeley Solar Vehicle Team, CalSol Jan 2025 – Present Led design reviews for next gen battery pack and mounting designs Facilitated efficient knowledge transfer to new leads and team ### Battery Subteam Lead @ UC Berkeley Solar Vehicle Team, CalSol Jan 2024 – Jan 2025 Delegated and monitored battery sub-team tasks including resistance welding, cell characterization, PCB design and soldering, CAD models & 3D printing, battery mounting, fusing and wiring. Led meetings and work sessions, onboarding new members, creating 122V battery from ground up on a 6 month timeline. ### Battery Engineer @ UC Berkeley Solar Vehicle Team, CalSol Jan 2023 – Jan 2024 Designed and manufactured a rail mounting system for battery pack, allowing for removal in 45 seconds in case of emergency while withstanding 10 G. Built fire retardant, non conductive battery enclosure with thermal venting and probing access. Installed and wired contactors/fuse inside the enclosure. ### Mountain Bike Subteam Engineer @ Bike Builders of Berkeley Jan 2024 – Present Used Fusion360 to design a rear dropout and SLS lugs for Carbon fiber mountain bike. Designed CAD of a custom bike frame in SolidWorks. ### Mechanical Design Intern @ Bimotal Jan 2025 – Jan 2026 | Berkeley, California, United States Designed gears from the ground up, delivering custom gears from CAD to production with FEA analysis Developed vibration specifications and a custom test rig to validate new battery design Designed production fixtures that enhanced efficiency and quality Root-caused and corrected part failures, implementing design modifications and managing suppliers Managed top level CAD assemblies and BOM for search and rescue system ### Mountain Biking Instructor @ Cheley Colorado Camps Jan 2024 – Jan 2024 | United States Led 1–3-day mountain biking trips with 10-12 young adults. Managed route planning, food supplies, and campsite set up. Responsible for wilderness first aid, bike maintenance, and technique instruction. ## Education ### Bachelor in Mechanical Engineering UC Berkeley College of Engineering ### High School Diploma Arroyo Grande High School ## Contact & Social - LinkedIn: https://linkedin.com/in/kian-rafian-6108ab321 --- Source: https://flows.cv/kianrafian JSON Resume: https://flows.cv/kianrafian/resume.json Last updated: 2026-04-10
